Habs 2-Yr Plan

Created by: Saku11
Team: 2025-26 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2024
Published: Feb. 17, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I realize a lot of this is contingent on good fortune but if Crosby doesn’t want to stay in Pitt thru a rebuild (I still think he’ll retire a penguin but he is the ultimate competitor, does he want another chance at a cup?)

If Flyers can’t sign Konecny and decide to retool. And Anderson has a bounce-back next season.

If Savard can get a 1st next year.

Will have plenty of room to upgrade the D if the kids don’t take a step.

He was a good young player in the Q. But no he's not worth Harris alone.

Konecny's deal is gonna age like Gallagher's. I'm not sure when, but that guys on ice play is gonna catch up with him.

Some interesting takes on acceleration, but I don't think Zegras & Konecny get it done in Montreal and I think you are way overvaluing Savard & Dufour.

What if I told you Flyers are gonna lock TK up long term and still be rebuilding for two more years?

Kinda silly to pay two first rounders for upcoming UFA Konecky.

You may be right on Konecny aging poorly. I would like that kind of player though.

As for Savard, he’s better than Chiarot imo and RH which is hard to acquire. I think he can easily get a 1st.

Dufour is taking a chance but had a great final year in the Q and rookie year in the A. Struggling this year with rumors of a sickness in his family (missed 10-12 games for personal reasons). Isles are high on him and I personally think he could score 30 in the show. Great shot and decent skating for a big man.

Willing to overpay for top 6 talent.

Julien Brisebois strategy of overpaying to get the asset you want. Would be with an extension signed. Habs have the assets to burn for the right players.

How old was Chiarot and how old is Savard?

Not sure what age has to do with it when the contract has 1 month left. Not like Chiarot was extended. Their numbers and analytics are very similar. Savard has won a cup and RHD is more valuable than LHD

You’re close for Zegras on value. A MTL ‘24 1st based trade would hold off until the pick was due to make sure a Verbeek ‘my guy’ is available. My guess is that’d be one of Lindstrom or Levshunov. If one of them is available, then instead of Kovacevic make it someone in more of the Mesar/Mailloux/Beck/Roy realm of value. If one of his guys aren’t available, it just wouldn’t be in the cards

I still think us ANA fans would hope they didn’t trade him, but if Verbeek actually didn’t see him as a long term fit, okay

I kinda think they outed these rumors in the press just to get him to straighten up and fly right (pun intended). They may not trade him at all.

Value wise, giving up a top 7 pick and an A prospect would be a lot imo. Could add a 2nd or a lesser prospect but not sure they’d do 2 quality assets for a guy the Ducks reportedly don’t like.

I see nothing that implies ANA doesn’t like Zegras except for media rumors that Verbeek listened to offers at some point. The fans love Z, he’s best friends with half the locker room, and the coach has consistently lauded his play/talent. Your last point couldn’t be more wrong,

Imagine Caufield was 6’0, played center, and scored 20 more points in each of the last two seasons. What would you want for him?
