Why would they? Because you say so?

If you want them to retain that much so that you acquire a top pair dman at 7Mx6.5 years, it’s gonna cost a lot more than 2 mid-late 1sts. Add Knies to that package to get them even a little bit interested

I can't see Chicago gutting the roster after extending Dickinson, Foligno, and Mrazek recently. They clearly want to create a more consistent locker room environment for the younger players.

I agree but this isn't like trading a 2nd or 3rd for a mid tier veteran it's essentially three 1sts.

This is so absurd. Jones is a cap dump. They need to retain for anyone to pay anything.

Same reason why Leafs had to retain for 6 years on Kessel and didn't get 10 firsts.

Seriously like the **** you say is so absurd youd have to be be so ****ing **** to even think it.

Chicago has no reason to move Jones. He’s a top pairing RHD and they don’t have cap issues. If another team wants him, especially with retention for that long, it’s gonna cost them. But hey, throw a temper tantrum if you want

They don't really need 3 late 1sts... KD was trying to move some draft picks last draft because even he thinks they have too many. You can only draft so many prospects, you need to give them room to grow. Look at all the 1st rounders Buffalo drafted and they're still in the depths of hell.

Getting a **** ton of futures for a rebuilding team is incentive enough ****.

Chicago has enough draft picks as is. They don’t need more late 1sts. A higher end young player/prospect as the main piece makes a lot more sense for them if they move Jones. Which is something Toronto doesn’t really have apart from Knies (but I’m not sure he’s better than what other teams could offer for Jones at 7M)

Not sure many teams are offering 2 1sts+ Arizona couldn't even get that for Chychrun.

Chychrun returned the 12th overall pick + two 2nds, which is more valuable than the 1st round picks you’re offering here imo

Jones is not a cap dump. If you actually believe that, I don't know what to tell you. But the fact that you are actually trading for him makes it pretty clear that you don't really believe that. It's just a narrative that you want to leverage to get a player that you want. Which is fine. GM's should always be trying to get the best possible price. But, it's never gonna happen with Jones and CHI. The retention alone makes your offer dead on arrival.

If you want to remove the retention and convince Jones to waive for TOR, CHI might consider it. But even then, it's likely going to take more. Niemela is not a 1st. We are way past that. If he were worth a 1st he would be in the NHL by now. The two late 1sts are a nice touch, but they are still late 1sts. The rest is just essentially worthless filler.

OTT only put top 5 protection on that 1st round pick, which ended up being a 12th overall pick. And a 12th overall pick is worth about as much as two late 1st round picks. And the two 2nd round picks should be worth about as much as a late 1st, depending on where OTT finishes this year and in 25-26.

Here is a great study I like to reference when determining the trade value of draft picks. https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/

Hawks easily decline. Chicago isn't retaining on Jones for 6 years. Even if they were willing, the retention alone would likely cost those two 1st round picks. Those three players don't come close to paying for a top pair RD.
