Wilson's next contract does not project well at all. Would severely limit what Boston can do in the offseason with all the cap relief they're getting

B's can probably get Blackwell for a 5th. Hawks would have zero interest in Gryz unless B's pay to send him to Chicago.

DeBrusk is better than McLeod, Chicago isn't doing that, not touching that Wilson contract and Edmundson is a pylon just like Forbort.

Don’t you think they would try to maximize their potential. Getting a top 6 guy for a bottom 6 guy. Bodes extremely well for McD and Leon.

I don’t think it matters , they’re tanking. They would take on Grizz for 2 months

Forbort is a shell of himself since the injury, getting another brute wouldn’t hurt. Wilson is exactly what the Bruins need. Toughness with some skill. Everyone on this team is too nice and happy and that’s their problem.

Fair enough, I didn’t even bother projecting what the pick would be, and in this case we could eat some of Grizz contract. But definitely agree a late round pick would have to go Chicagos way as well👍

No, for three reasons:

1.) we've seen time and time again how depth wins Cups, especially C depth
2.) adding 1.9mil in cap space while severely weakening their bottom-6 puts them in the position of being a very shallow team... again
3.) McLeod has actually shown very well in a stint with Draisaitl & Foegele so, ideally, I'd have him in the top-6

On top of that, McLeod is among the fastest in the league (2nd behind only Mackinnon in bursts of +32 & +35kmph per-60) and has taken genuine strides in using that to greater effect this year, both on offense & defense. I would much rather give him an extended look with Drai & make additions to the 3rd or 4th line to support Kane, Perry, Holloway, & Janmark/Ryan.

I agree they're too nice but Wilson is on 33-pts pace and his new contract which runs until he's 37yo hasn't even started. For a team like the Bruins, they can't afford to take this risky contract that will inevitably be a disaster regardless of Wilson's grit/intimidation factor.

For what purpose? To sit him in the press box? Chicago is not going to take Grzelcyk and the $2.4m in cap hit difference just because Boston fans want them to.

At least Blackwell is playing, if they move Blackwell it will be for a late round draft pick.

The title is "what would it take". So, I think he is asking what it would take for them to get Blackwell and move Gryz's contract.

My answer would be that, Blackwell is worth a mid to late round draft pick, lets call it a 4th. Like @Hawksguy81 said, you'd have to pay us to take Gryz. If CHI were to take his contract on Deadline day, that would make CHI liable for around $1.4M in actual salary with a $3.6875M cap hit. Negligible enough for a team like CHI. But to CHI he would be a pure cap dump that will go to free agency in the summer and never wear a Blackhawks sweater again. So, maybe a mid to late round pick for that as well, let's call it a 4th. Add those values together and you get two 4ths. I think in this case we could command like a 2026 3rd, offsetting the value by making it two years down the road, and call it a day.

So, Blackwell for Gryz (cap dump) + 2026 3rd round pick. And if you don't want to tread Gryz like a cap dump, find a team that actually needs him. Which I think it is possible that there could be teams interested in him as a positive asset. But, they probably aren't gonna pay much, and most teams that might want him for a playoff run probably can't take on his cap hit.

Perhaps that is what he means however, in the proposed deal with Washington, draft picks and retention were part of the proposal. I would assume if he thought more was needed for the Chicago/Boston proposal they also would have been included.

For the record, I agree with your trade value assessment.

For sure. But they are also overpaying in the WSH trade. So, Idk. OP seemed pretty civil in most of their comments. So I figured I'd give them a little slack. haha

For Sure you both are right, Blackwell would take a pick and the Bruins would have to eat some money on Grizz, but I disagree with Grizz being in the press box. He’s no elite defensemen but Chicago roster is a dumpster fire and giving Grizz a trial run could earn himself in Chicago next year. Thats why I think it entices the Hawks more than you think.
