Team: 2023-24 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2024
Published: Feb. 20, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
VGK Trade: Note that 2024 2nd is suppose to be 2025 2nd
Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Brisson, Brendan
  2. Kolesar, Keegan
  3. 2024 1st round pick (VGK)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (VGK)
  5. 2025 3rd round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Nelson, Brock ($3,000,000 retained)
  2. Wahlstrom, Oliver
Additional Details:
Wahlstrom could use a change of scenery....Playing with "better" players might elevate his game....3rd for him and 1st, 2nd and the rest for Nelson
2.
NYI
  1. Lockwood, William
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2025 5th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
**2025 5th is the higher of the two**
Lockwood is just a filler player
FLA
  1. Palmieri, Kyle ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Is Palmieri worth more or is this about right?

Also, is the above trade ok in terms of value?
3.
NYI
  1. Johnson, Tyler
  2. 2025 4th round pick (NYR)
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (TOR)
  4. 2026 6th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
2nd(shouldn't hurt them too much to part w/ the 2nd as it is 2 years down the line and they should be slightly better) + 4th for Pageau 6th for Clutterbuck, Johnson just for cap reasons(ik cap wont rlly affect the hawks but they may like so cap space to do these moves)...Is the value ok in terms of what each player going to CHI is worth?
CHI
  1. Clutterbuck, Cal
  2. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
Additional Details:
Doesn't necessarily have to be the Hawks, they just have the cap space and could use (a) veteran(s) in the locker room like him (especially after releasing Perry) Clutterbuck would have a physical role protecting the young guys especially Bedard and Pageau could be a mentor to Bedard(not an Isles fan obv so don't know how could Pageau really is)....
4.
NYI
  1. 2024 4th round pick (NYR)
  2. 2025 5th round pick (MIN)
NYR
  1. Reilly, Mike
Additional Details:
Could maybe try him out in place of Gus bc Gus doesnt seem to do sh*t for defense...Also could change up the D as a whole with Reilly in Gus out bc the D needs to improve...He is also a "cheap" option in terms of cap hit

Both players going to hawks are cap dumps. I could see the hawks getting them, but I would be shocked if they gave up assets to acquire them.

If you are retaining 50% of Nelson, NYR would definitely be interested in him. Reilly doesn't really do anything for us.

edit: they probably also would take NYI up on a 3rd for Wahlstrom.

I guess the thing for the Hawks is it just really doesnt move the needle. The Hawks dont NEED to take on cap, and if we wanted a meathead in the lineup there are plenty available that we dont have to pay a 2nd rounder for. Pageau will just fill the same role that Tyler Johnson does, who we're trading away, so that swap doesnt really make sense on our end either.

NYI would have to pay chicago to take those players. Hawks don't need anymore bottom 6 players

Contrary to what you said the Hawks don’t need veterans in the room, they have Foligno, Dickinson, Hall, Murphy, Jones, Donato and Athanasiou set to return next season. What they need are top of the lineup players which neither Clutterbuck or Pageau are.

If you want the Hawks to take the contracts of overpaid, underperforming veterans be prepared to pay a significant price.

Nelson (50% retained) and Wahlstrom who comes with upside for a first and a bag of chips? I'll pass.

I don't know too much about how Brisson has done since being drafted, but he was a monster at Michigan (my brother went to Michigan and I went to Quinnipiac, so we watch college hockey when we can). His one-timer from his off-wing was deadly. I think he'd be a great prospect back in a trade for Brock.
