The value is there in the first trade (maybe Carolina wants a little more) but I do get the sense this is more an offseason type trade than one at the TDL; most teams don't want to trade major pieces at this point of the season.

Canes don’t have a need for Byram with how many dmen they already have on the left side. If the Canes are moving Necas, they are going after a forward upgrade, not a 4LD.

I think the Byram-Necas deal makes a lot more sense in the offseason. I could see a need arising at LD given the UFA situation, but that need doesn't really exist at the deadline
