Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2024
Published: Mar. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not a great job by Conroy ngl.. he's getting scammed on every deal he makes
Trades
CGY
  1. Ceci, Cody
  2. Savoie, Carter
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I supose it was something like this. Man it's not like CGY is going to compete any time soon.. just take a salary back and get those 1st rounders. You also fill a jersey. Ceci over Gilbert everyday.. and Conroy has make Markstrom unavailable and Markstrom criticised the Flames openly

The late 1st round of this draft is negligible. They got a prospect that they value that was drafted in the 2nd and a 2nd round pick. There’s zero need for Ceci, you’re countering your own point, he’s better than Gilbert but they’re not going to compete

You got a 2nd and a 2nd round pick prospect that they like. 2 x 2nd's is easily equal to a late 1st round pick.

I am a Leafs fan. The value was just fine.

Well is a huge understatement on the Lindholm trade. He killed Vancouver on that one haha.

No one wanted Kuzmenko for free. Knowing the 1st is between 26-32 and that Jurmo might never play in the league, i wouldn't say Killed van.

Of course Hunter is a very nice prospect

With Pettersson and Miller - I personally didn't see the need for Lindholm. Especially at the expense of Kuzmenko. Vancouver was playing very well. That's a big change. I didn't see it being necessary.

I didn't understand the need to fire Kuzmenko to the sun. They could have kept him and gotten Tanev and called it a day.

Either way I really like the return for Calgary.

Who knows what the owner has stipulated. Could be no trades with Leafs and should be no trades in division.

the rumored first was Colorado, and the Flames would have had to eat RyJo's contract.

I'd rather have a 2nd and Grush than a 1st and have to pay RyJo

Look at NOV, could have got a haul for Zadorov + Tanev to TOR which would have sent 1st +

But nah wanted to get scammed for fair value lul

Leafs literally don’t have the pieces that they’d part with to make that work. That’s a cope and a half.

They did have the pieces lul CGY just didnt want to deal and took market value over dealing with their former GM lul

Did u not see what CGY got for both guys?

TOR could have topped that easily lul

A minimum of a 1st + would have went back for those two per reports back in NOV

    In the end CGY got

2nd + 3rd + 5th + B prospect for both (the other 3rd is conditional based on DAL reaching SCF)

Thats pretty bad value for those two

Like if TOR gave 2024 1st + 2025 and 2026 3rd (no conditions) + Niemela that beats out those deals easily but CGY didnt want to deal so its fine

Surprising. They were really about to spend a 1st on a dmen? They already have Toews Girard Makar Manson Byram. 2C should be the priority no?

So the Leafs would sent the 1st for Tanev because they have no 2nds, Calgary is very very clearly valuing prospects over picks so what’s the pick and the prospect coming back to finish the deal?

Grushnishkov is very mid. He falls behind Poirier, Hunter and Morin. The pick is conditionall. Poor job by Conroy

Seem to have missed it back in NOV

TOR and CGY were working on a deal for Zadorov and Tanev

A minimum of a 1st + would have went back for both of them with ret. Deal fell apart due to CGY not wanting to ret among some other factors

Few days later CGY trades Zadorov to VAN for a 3rd and 5th (market value) then a few days ago bites and trades Tanev (50% ret) for 2nd + conditional 3rd (probs wont get) and a B level prospect

If they had buckled down and continued working in NOV they could have got a haul for the two but they took market value instead

Like I would say 1st + 2 3rds + Niemela, Timmins would have gone the other way for those two

Completely different type of player that balances the pipeline nicely from a team that’s recently had elite round 2’s of drafts. You trying to say you’ve got a good read on this player that you probably never heard of two days ago is insane.

Pretty similar across the board. Timmins is terrible and zero value, Niemela’s development has been middling at best so far and the difference in picks beyond 20 in this draft class is a lottery ticket. For packaging up two guys that Toronto return is minimal.

Just hoping Conny has a plan in mind to maybe be a buyer, because we do currently need to replace Tanev this season, although could you imagine if Tanev returned via Free Agency!? Ceci’s not ideal, but would have been a replacement at least. RyJo’s not great either, but we are lacking a Centre atm as well

Grushnikov must be something special though to pass up on that 1st though, so I hope Conroy knows what he’s doing and he does make sense to balance out the Defence coroner currently have. We need a strong stay at home defender for the Offensive Dmen we already have, especially Brzustewicz

Kylington may be able to replace Hanifin, otherwise we may need a replacement for him still yet too (Ryan Graves or Bo Byram maybe!?)

    Weegar-Andersson

Timmins would have just been a fill in replacement and to make cap work but still in the end would have been better than what CGY got for both Zadorov + Tanev lul dont know how your not figuring that out

    1st + 2 3rds + Niemela (High B prospect) + Timmins beats out 2nd + 3rd + conditional 3rd (probs wont get) + 5th + B prospect (Artem Grushnikov)

Also how is Nirmala's development middling have u not seen him lul

6 goals 22 assists in first full AHL season so far, is not afraid to hit and is a nice developing 2-way Dman who can QB a PP and play PK

All speculation. Neimala is a good player is a really bad pipeline stuck behind really bad D men.

Poor job because he got the expected return? The only people upset at this trade are those daft enough to buy into the deadline hype.

personally I like the addition of Grush to the prospect pool, he's an excellent defensive player that skates very well. He's only "meh" if you judge purely on points. He's the Flames #3 defensive prospect behind Poirier and Brzustewicz and IMO it's pretty close between him and Bruiser, Grush may not have as high of a ceiling, but he has a higher floor. Morin is a good prospect be e hasn't done enough to pass Grush.

I think Grush is really going to surprise people with how good he turns out. He's not going to put up many points but he's could be a premier defensive player. Some have compared him to Tanev, but I think the better comp is Willie Mitchell, except with very good skating.
