What do you say to this lol. At least he’s a guy who wants to re-commit to playing in CGY!? That’s the positive

That said, $1.125mil is the MAX I would have signed him for, but $850-975k is all that should have been offered

I watched Rooney play for New York. How is he making more than Blake Wheeler?

I was concerned when he signed 1.3 mil in free agency two years ago but considering he is usually in the minors this is definitely stupid.

If the Flames are in rebuild mode this might be a case of throwing too much cash to get a higher cap hit, the Hawks showed Conroy the way.

A dude in the AHL should not be making this kinda money, looks a bad signing.

Makes absolutely no sense so there must be more to it than what we know. Ownership/management must personally love this guy and they just want to be extra nice I guess? There really is no other justification.

why overpay for a declining player who cant make a bad team? If he is not worth having on your everyday roster at 33 yrs old...why pay him over 1mil to be in the minors?

There's absolutely no reason why a guy like Rooney should get more than league minimum. Perhaps they don't want him plucked off waivers, but the better option to prevent that would be a two-year deal with a much lower cap hit.
