Ottawa accepts.

The trade would basically block Grans or Kleven from making the NHL as an LHD but the value is great so that can be figured out later.

Why wouldn't they? He's been a very effective player for 2 years in a row now and it the sort of defenseman they've historically liked to target (not to mention they've been rumored to be interested in him previously)

Good point, thought he was LHD for some reason.

I'd accept that deal in a heartbeat.

We need to get Noah Cates to Ottawa . He’s exactly what we need

He's on a more expensive contract than Mikheyev for more term and theres no point trading Podkolzin for that.

I could see Cates being involved, but not with a 1st rounder in the same package

Sens need to trade for Cates I don’t really care what. He’s the perfect bottom 6 guy for us along with Ostapchuk , Greig, Joseph and maybe 2 more vets

FWIW I'd personally trade more for him, but I'm not sure how they'd be able to justify getting more value. Top-10 drafted RHD prospect in the league + rookie scoring at a top-6 rate + 2 high picks is a pretty significant package

Yeah that'd be an absolute wagon of depth. I'm not naive enough to believe it'd be 1-for-1, but if the Flyers moved Cates for Chychrun I don't see them adding any other premium assets. Maybe like a 2nd and a prospect

Is Podkolzin realistically going to get a shot in Vancouver? He's waiver eligible next season and hasn't played in the NHL much at all this season

He'll be a full timer next year. Plus that Risto contract is ugly no matter how you slice it

Grans has been meh. Zamula is decent but not sure of the fit . Laughton is too old and should be on a team that is all in

cates would be a really nice add, but Idk if the opportunity cost of getting a 1st and a roster defenseman is enough for me to do cates + a 2nd. To me, Zamula is a really useful player to have because he fits what I think a modern depth d-man looks like, but he also makes brannstrom expendable for a trade to hunt for a different bottom 6 player to fill that cates-style role. Adding laugton for forsberg would be the cherry on top imo

A bottom 6 of Greig, Joseph , Cates, Ostapchuk , Martinook and another vet is how u start winning and build an identity

Laughton is 29 and has two years left on his contract, that's not old.
