Am I crazy for suggesting Trocheck be on the list? Not necessarily a contender to win it, but is he in the conversation? He's played great defensively every time I've watched him this year. Which has only been 4 times lol

I think it's the most controversial and difficult trophy to select, because that's always depending on a jugement by journalist/analysts.

Nick Suzuki top 3 is nuts. Trocheck should be here above him, probably could swap Teuvo out for Stone too

Just like every other award in the NHL, the Selke comes down to a few statistical categories.

5v5 xGF% (has recently replaced +/-)
Corsi For % (can be relative to teammates on bad teams)
PK TOI (coupled with team PK effectiveness)
Faceoff win percentage

For a player to be considered for the Selke, he needs to be at the top of his team and near the top of the league in each of these statistical categories.

Stone multiple injuries during the season will affect him a lot for a Selke ranking.

Suzuki is just underrated and underapricated by people, and that's just a fact. He owned somes top lines recently (ex : last Saturday against the Leafs).

He's good, not denying that, but Selke? Come on... again, Trocheck should be here above Suzuki

It’s going to be Barkov that wins for sure. Suzuki probably around 6th for me I’d probably move Matthews and Teravainen ahead of him personally.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I can do some objective comparison of the two using the relevant stats I posted above:

Vincent Trocheck:
5v5 xGF%: 52.1% (3rd on team among forwards behind Panarin and Lafreniere - his linemates)
5v5 CF%: 54% (3rd on team among forwards behind Panarin and Lafreniere)
PK TOI/GP: 1:29 (4th on team behind Bonino [2:02], Goodrow [1:58], and Zibanejad [1:52])
FO%: 59.3%, best on team (Other centers on team: Zibanejad [49.4%], Goodrow [54.8%], Bonino [51%])

Nick Suzuki:
5v5 xGF%: 49.2% (3rd on team among forwards behind Armia and Gallagher - not his linemates)
5v5 CF%: 50% (best on team among forwards)
PK TOI/GP: 0:57 (9th on team behind pretty much everyone. Jake Evans [3:10] leads team)
FO%: 53.6%, 3rd on team (Other centers on team: Monahan [55%], Evans [51.5%], Dvorak [59.9%]

Their on ice percentages are roughly equal, but Trocheck definitely has the edge due to PK usage and faceoff prowess. However, I wouldn't put either player in the top 5.

For comparison, let's look at some real Selke contenders:

Alex Barkov:
5v5 xGF%: 61.2% (best on team)
5v5 CF%: 58% (best on team)
PK TOI/GP: 1:55 (4th on team behind Stenlund [2:32], Luostarinen [2:29], Reinhart [2:05])
FO%: 57.5%, best on team (Other centers on team: Lundell [53.5%], Stenlund [53.0%], Luostarinen [53.1%])

Jordan Staal:
5v5 xGF%: 62.1% (best on team)
5v5 CF%: 63% (2nd on team behind Jesper Fast, his linemate)
PK TOI/GP: 2:07 (most on team)
FO%: 58.4%, best on team (Other centers on team: Drury [54.2%], Aho [54.1%], Kotkaniemi [50.3%])
