Ship has sailed for that Sabre trade. Sabres can pick up depth dmen for cheaper and not give up any assets in ufa

Why would the Sharks give up a projected middle 6 forward and a 2nd for 2 guys projected to be 3rd pairing defensemen?

I'm honestly just sick of seeing this same exact mock trade

Habs fan here. I’m not a fan of Caufield. He is bad defensively and as a D in real life, I hate forwards who doesn’t commit defensively. I would probably do that deal, if Mercer agrees to a reasonable extension (8 years x 6m)

The real question is why would we ever do that Sharks trade

Mercer hasn't earned that contract at all. He's getting bridged

If Sabres aren't interested in that trade, I'd do it in a heartbeat

Sharks trade is good for Montreal.

I wonder what both teams would really think about that Caufield trade... Good proposal you can see both say no.

I would do this trade, kids a decent Dman and your not getting much Cheaper than $800,000 for a Depth Dman. Which depending on what they do with Joker wouldn't be a bad idea.

Montreal finally has a 1st line that plays well together (and Caufield and Suzuki are good friends) and they have Caufield locked up long term but the plan would be to break up the first line in the hope that (1) Mercer fits in as well as Caufield does on that line and (2) that Mercer gets signed to a long term contract and (3) that Mercer rediscovers his scoring touch (Mercer has half the points that Caufield does this year)?

Caufield’s plus/minus has improved each year. He is -7 this year. Mercer is -20

Mercer has half the points that Caufield does this year.

I have to admit I don’t know a lot about Bystedt, but Barron easily gets a first

Plus/minus is more a team stat than an individual stat. You can’t say if a player is good defensively based on that. Caufield has truly awful stats

Bystedt and Barron have a similar potential (although different positions). Bystedt is 2.5 years younger though

Is Harris worth a 2nd? This a good proposal overall, value not far off but a bit in Montreal's favor (IMO)

Didn’t realise Bystedy was a former first. Maybe we accept but I doubt it. Barron is too important

How would you list Montreal D-men (including prospects) by importance going forward (without Savard)
