hater scenario - leafs get bounced in the first and blow it up

Created by: zk97
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2024
Published: Mar. 21, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After confidently and easily making the 2023-24 playoffs, the Leafs succumb to the Washington Capitals who were brought into the playoffs kicking and screaming for mercy in a 4-0 sweep. Angered, president Shanahan and GM Treliving decide to blow the team up - and this means nobody -- NOBODY, is safe.
Coach Keefe is the first one gone. He's replaced with Joel Ward (honestly, it could be anyone. I have no idea who they'd pick).
After his firing, Tre and Shanny work together to make a lot of moves to completely blow up the team, bringing a brand new look into the 2024-25 season.

Additional Details:
In a surprising move, William Nylander is dealt to the Devils, who are looking for a piece to complete their top six (Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Mercer, Meier). However, because Timo Meier -- a bounceback candidate, which the Leafs are very interested in -- is in the deal, the Leafs send Matthew Knies to the Devils as well to complete their top six. In return, the Leafs receive Timo Meier, who has had a rough time in NJ, the 8th overall selection, and defenseman John Marino.

Which is fantastic, because Columbus doesn't make the offer nyway. The GM who wanted Marner is long gone, and Columbus has about 150 better uses for 13 million dollars than another winger.

All of toronto's top players have NMCs as well as huge cap hits which severely limits the amount of teams they can go to which in turn lowers all of their value. These returns are very optimistic.

Ik it's a joke. But deciding to blow up, unless the core is utterly awful, given how brutal the D core is this year in particular, would be stupid
