What can we do

Created by: JMSTL2019
Team: 2024-25 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 22, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Regardless if we make playoffs or not, Army can’t stand pat with this current roster. Depth scoring needs to be addressed and a d-man need to be moved. Let’s pretend Buchy signs a 5 year, $7.8 mil extension and Snuggerud starts the year in Springfield. The only forwards that have a chance of being traded are Saad and Hayes. Defensively, it would be ideal to trade Leddy, Krug, or Faulk. No one wants Krug or Faulk, so Leddy is the obvious trade chip. I’d like to think Army will sign a 3rd liner for scoring depth and a cheap dman. Finding Parayko an actual partner is also a priority. STL fans what are your thoughts on Doug’s offseason agenda cause I have no idea what the plan is. With the extra cap space Army could add some solid pieces. Long story short Foegele > Kapanen and Matheson > Leddy.

Trades
1.
STL
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
A 3rd is fair, Leddy can play 2/3 pair minutes while putting up 25-30 pts
NYI
  1. Leddy, Nick ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Blues retain 25% on Leddy. Won’t hurt our cap space with 2 years left on his deal. Traded to any team—picked NYI since he’s familiar with the team and they need defensive help.
2.
STL
  1. Matheson, Michael
Additional Details:
MTL has a defensive logjam. Matheson is expendable with all the young pieces around.
MTL
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (STL)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Draft day deal. No idea what the asking price would be. Matheson’s offensive numbers boost value.

For Matheson, we would ask for Bolduc + first, not less

matheson is a local, sweet cap, wears a letter, is our top pts getter on the blueline...

way more than that i would expect too much. same as savard.

want lhd? i read harris is always available, want young rd? kovacevich is solid and big

Thats probably what matheson is worth because of how awful his defence is, but I wouldnt be happy with this return still.

I dont think he fits the blues, he is too much like Krug and Faulk, all offence, no defence

I figured the asking price would be high. Blues need a guy who can handle 18-25 minutes a night which is hard to find.

Matheson isn't really replaceable right now for Montreal. He's certainly not going to moved for a 2nd and a 3rd. Even if he's been bad defensively, its really hard to find someone who can even be as effective as he has been playing over 25 minutes a night mostly against top lines and top pairs.

Blues need RHD but more importantly a top pair dman. Harris and Kovacevich aren’t capable of playing that much, Kovacevich’s physical play would be a welcomed addition.

He’s been fine but Parayko needs a real partner. These are the times we wish Dunn and Walman were here.

I'd sell you Matheson at that discount but you're going to have to take at least one contract with him... Anderson or Gally.

we have no one who can replace offensively or takes the ampunt of minute he eats. His value is still probably greater at the deadline anyway. He will most likely start the year in Montréal.

True, I tried finding a partner for Parayko who focuses on the offensive side of the puck, Parayko can contribute as the shutdown guy. Should STL go after Brady Skjei this summer? He’s another solid top 4 shutdown D.

Matheson is signed for 2 years after this, he’s also 30. He’ll also make a little more on his next contract. Habs fans want a first and a prospect but realistically you’d get a 2nd and a 3rd.

We don't need an offensive Dman to play with Colt. This should be more than clear by now. We need a solid J-Bo type who can skate and own the slot and move the puck safely. Colt should be the puck mover on his pairing. This should also be very clear by now.

I dont think they will trade him but its what they should do. Teams usually pay for stay at home guys at the deadline, so I think we should move Savard then. Would like to see Guhle with those minutes, and if he makes the team, Hutson will take the PP spot
