Leafs can and should add more. Multiple prospects, like a Minten and Knies.

We trade everyone, to get a rid of players who know how to distribute the puck for Matthews. We then create a defensive D core where Reilly now looks insulted with limited minutes and to be honest the D core is better than currently but still need some more puck moving defensemen which was a sore spot for us. The best two are Reilly and Montour. Skjej is a nice upgrade but he is not the most fleet of foot for moving the puck up the ice. Also our offense gets a lot worse with a very weak defensive second line missing lots of offense and a good first line as long as Draisatl can develop chemistry with Matthews. If not, then the overall forward corps starts really lacking. This does not make the team better and makes it worse it my opinion.

Also idea that Vegas trades sho much for a Ufa with a season that is low for his previous standards? Won't happen. We are better off keeping Tavares and telling his if you want to stay here you need to resign for a much lower cap hit something most insiders believe is a very strong possibility. Tavares over 10 is an overpay but between 6 and 7 million on a low 3-4 year deal is actually good.

nah bro you don't get to give willie $92 million and get out of it before it starts idc how great he'd be next to fantilli, we wouldn't do that if gaudreau wasn't going the other way. give up one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league and a 10.2c player who fits the timeline in exchange for a guy about to get paid huge for eight seasons and is 8 years older than fantilli.

Nylander's game will age well. But it is a risk. I think Columbus will have to make bold moves. They can be a playoff team again very quickly.

Jackets would accept that. Johnson maybe good at some point but I would much rather take a sure thing.

we cannot accept without a 100% guaranteed elvis move in place and even then it really limits our ability to get team friendly deals with term for any of the remaining RFAs.

with as many young players as we have that are going to need their own bigger contracts, we simply don't have room to take on a player that does not fit the timeline. it will guarantee us an eternity of fighting for a playoff spot but never competing exactly how nylander's toronto career has already gone.

Elvis has a very affordable buyout. Not an issue.

Yeah, that 3 million in 2026 right when all our best young players need new contracts is very affordable.

Remove Boone and I'd be more willing to consider that deal; we can't afford the leadership vacuum. As it is it'd be difficult to fit because of the cap, even tho Nylander is well worth it.

People are so convinced he’s gonna be bought out and it will be noooooooo big deal like that’s not gonna be 3% of the cap or higher tied up there

It is clear that we cannot carry Elvis and his 5.4 mil cap hit for the next 3yrs. He is not even a backup and how could you even suggest 5.4 mil per for a backup? Buy out is imminent. A lot of people should get used to the idea that we may clean house and could move salary out of town too.

Columbus won’t have to pay to get rid of him. They may not get anything in return, but they’ll move him without paying this summer.

It wouldn’t even be hard a little to keep him (as long as we’re not trading for a nylander - we’re not btw) for two seasons even if we have to bury his cap hit and then move him as an expiring during the summer we need space. But somewhere along this path, someone will need goaltending and will take a chance

I know we are not trading for Nylander. I mean, come on. But as far as Elvis goes, the cap hit per se is not the real problem, it is the roster spot he occupies. But coupling that with the cap hit Elvis makes no sense here anymore.

again, if we NEED to get him out of the locker room or we NEED to get another goaltender on the roster, we can bury his cap hit by sending him to cleveland or back to europe if he wishes. this would require waivers, where if someone claims him then our problem is completely solved. otherwise, he gets to go play huge minutes somewhere and wait to be traded to someone that needs a tendie. reduces his cap hit by a million and frees up the roster spot. we're not near the contracts limit so there's no concern there.

like squash said - we're not paying to get rid of him. and that includes a buyout that lasts 6 seasons.

Do you really think Ownership is going to be ok paying a guy like Elvis 4+mil to play in Cleveland?? No way. Plus, that handcuffs the new GM, whoever that may be, on being able to improve the team.
