If the Habs dont win the lottery

Created by: RoyBoy
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If they don’t get Celebrini or a top guy in this draft that is NHL ready, I can’t see them playing a prospect in the NHL right away. If they get Celebrini, I can see a world where they either don’t do the second trade I have listed, or Evans could be moved and Beck can become the 4C possibly.

Additional Details:
Chicago takes a gamble on Dvorak possibly bouncing back and maybe being a trade chip with retention at the 2025 deadline, and get more for Soderblöm than he is likely worth. Chicago will likely sign a veteran backup for 1 year to pair with Mrazek while Stauber and Commesso develop more in the AHL

Nothing of interest there for Necas.

Hawks easily decline. Dvorak takes a 2nd to dump whether the Habs want Soderblom or not.

It'd cost a 3rd to dump Dvorak alone. Hawks will keep the ****ty but still young goalie that helps them tank for another season or 2.

I said 3rd because it's under 5 mil and only for 1 season.

Dvorak's actual salary though is $5.7m. A million more than his cap hit. I also don't think the Hawks will take on any "bad" contracts for less than a 2nd this summer.

$2.5-$3m generally costs a 2nd per year, Arizona has defined the market pretty well with the Ghost, Ladd, Nemeth, and Kassian dumps. If you’re getting close to $5m that’s 1st round pick territory.

Arizona keeps the 2nd to move up, Harris doesn’t move the needle enough to risk the possibility of getting back into the late teens/ early 20s

Unless Necas is being moved for one of Suzuki or Caufield, there likely isn’t a deal for Necas to go to the Habs.

Get more for Soderblom than he is probably worth? So is the pick for Soderblom or to pay for dumping Dvorak? Or, are you actually considering Dvorak to be positive value?

Dvorak is a cap dump that will cost a 2nd to move.

CHI has no need to move Soderblom. His first year hasn't been great, but IT'S HIS FIRST YEAR. I don't think CHI is in any rush to "move him before his value diminishes further." They will let him either sink or swim in a Hawks sweater, there is zero urgency. So, you could take Soderblom out of that deal and CHI would still decline. $hit, you could even take Dvorak out of that deal and CHI would probably decline. I am more than confident that they want to give him all the time he needs to figure things out, before Commesso and Gajan eventually take over or they snag someone else.

Davidson got a 2nd and 4th for 1 1/5 seasons of Zaitsev at $4.5m.

He got a 2nd for two seasons of Dickinson at $2.75m and was able to dump two seasons of Riley Stillman at $1.35m per as part of the deal.

Puckpedia estimates the cost of moving Dvorak’s one remaining season with a $4.45m cap hit at the 3rd pick of the 2nd round.
