The thing is, Chicago doesn't do it, but this is WAY more than fair value for Bedard... a 5th for Aho is... not

I think Chicago would take that, Carolina wouldn't. Trades that are many high value pieces for a big name player usually don't go well (See Herschel Walker trade or Lindros trade). It's just better to get the plethora of pieces, especially with a hard cap

Okay, but this is a package that is also fair value for McDavid, and McDavid has more value than Bedard... I don't care how good he projects to be, you take the top 5 player in NHL scoring pace ever over a kid anyday
