No team is going to pay 10 mil for Necas (6-8 mil to Necas + retention).

Buffalo probably accepts but the rest of these trades are completely out to lunch... Egregious overpays. Are you sure you're not a Sabres fan?

Sabres reject that. It's bad hockey trade, Skinner will be a Sabre next season and after that decisions will be made. They are too cheap to retain that much

The retention will only be for one year and Necas won't be getting 8 mil off a 55ish point season.

A high 1st (5-10 ova) + 3rd is likely his value on the open market but he holds more value to the Habs than his open market value, so he is unlikely to be traded. Necas is an RFA with 1 year of team control and arbitration rights who will likely get a 1 year 7 mil contract if he goes to arbitration. Then he can walk in FA, that will scare a lot of teams off him and decrease his overall market value. Add to all that that Carolina needs to sign no less than 8 roster players with Jarvis, Teravainen, Pesce and Skeji all included the Canes will be hard pressed to sign everyone.

Would you pay Lindholm + Lekkerimaki + 2nd for Caufield?

I obviously wouldn’t give that up for Caufield. And OP’s trades are heavily lopsided I’m not denying that, I just think Necas is worth more than a 1st and 3rd (unless it’s a super high 1st)

They've gotta do some cap shuffling, I think. But the rumor came about during the deadline that he was "On the block". That was conveniently around the same time that Carolina was working a trade for Pettersson... People apparently can't read between the lines on that one lol.

I'd rather give up on Pesce and Teravainen who is 30 this year when Necas is 5 years younger and is far better. There you save 9,5 million. And if KK is bought out, 4 million saved. TDA and Raanta will also go - 3 million. So no need to trade Necas. Considering how poor is Svech recently, Jarvis to brigde because it seems Svech to long term was a mistake. They will work it out.

That's what I mean about doing the cap shuffling. People took off with the "Necas on the block report" (Which I think was claimed by Larry Brooks lol) even though that was likely Necas being included in an Elias Pettersson package.

I'd include just about anything in a package for Connor McDavid. Doesn't mean I'm ready to ship those same pieces off for a package of futures lol.

laugh laugh Yeah like Detroit is playing close to 50% on JT Compher for 4 years giving up Kasper and a 2nd, And paying Martin Necas close to $7,000,000 per long term. Detroit declines way too much to give up for Necas retaining on Compher for 4 years and paying Necas more than what we're currently paying Compher.

Skinner has 3 year left, Brady 4 (geez that one is the worst). Even if Necas got 6,5aav, you are looking at 10,5aav cost with those.

Caufield is worth a bit less than Debrincat, so the 7OA pick without the extra second

Realistically, Necas is worth around 2 late first and a second. Carolina wouldn’t do that, but it’s probably what would be consider fair value. But hey, we never know what can happen, Guentzel didn’t even get a first!!!

Realistically, Necas is worth around 2 late first and a second. Carolina wouldn’t do that, but it’s probably what would be consider fair value. But hey, we never know what can happen, Guentzel didn’t even get a first!!!

Fiala is also a good comparison. Both 25 year old RFA wingers. Fiala was coming off a 33 goal, 85 point season though so you can say he was better. But you can also maybe offset that with the fact Minnesota desperately needed cap space

A mid 1st and a good prospect (although Faber has gone way above his expectations)

The retention will only be for one year and Necas won't be getting 8 mil off a 55ish point season.

If you retain, you retain for the length of the contract, you can't trade somebody with 4 years left and only say you are retaining on one of the years.

I know. For some reason I thought Skinner only had 1 year left on his contract. Not sure how I came up with that but it was a late night.

Also, Fiala is worse defensively. I think it’s a good comparable in case of a trade. And I don’t think Minnesota’s cap situation matters too much cuz if the Canes trade Necas, it would be for a similar reason
