  3. 2025 4th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Sillinger nor Barron have spots in their team's future (most likely), so they get swapped to find a place in said future. Sillinger > Barron so Habs add the Jets 1st and a 4th

  2. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
I do wonder about a swap like this. Matheson and Weegar are both the same age, Matheson plays LD which the Flames lack, Weegar plays RD which the Habs lack. Weegar is probably better tho so the Habs would add, question is how much?
Also there's no issue of a logjam for the Flames, all their up and coming defensemen aren't something super special so they can be packaged and traded if need be

I’ve never really thought about weegar or a similar swap but it would certainly solve a lot of our problems. I think I’d try to get Johnson over Sillinger though and I definitely think it’s possible especially with a new GM coming into Columbus.

What gives you the idea that Sillinger does not have a place in the CBJ's future? They don't even have a GM right now so who knows what their future is? I'd have a hard time believing any team wouldn't have a spot in their lineup for the kind of player Sillinger is developing into though.

Matheson is a better offensive player and Weegar is probably a better defensive player. Flames have Andersson as their two way presence and Matheson should mesh well with him on the first pair plus I'm not too sure about the difference in value between the two

Johnson is probably more expensive, we have to remember Sillinger was picked 10th (I think) as well so he has upside, we just have to unlock it by getting him back with Tate McRae

How I see it right now:

Gaudreau-Fantilli-Laine
Johnson-Catton*-Marchenko

* I have a good feeling they're picking a C this draft, whether it's Catton or Lindstrom

Sillinger still slots in as an exceptional defensive 3C if he continues down the path he's headed.

The difference between Weegar and Matheson’s offensive ability is significantly lower than the difference between their defensive abilities. Weegar is an elite 2 way dman, probably a top ~20 dman in the whole league. Matheson is all offense and not very good defensively yet only has 7 more points (despite having more than double the PP points and playing 3 more minutes per game than Weegar does)

It’s a nice theory (and I know it’s popular opinion) but Matheson plays among the toughest minutes in the league. Weegar doesn’t even make the list.

Seconding this. Sillinger looks like he could be a perfect 3C for the next 15+ years already, and that looks like the floor. Definitely not a guy you trade, especially considering he's only 20 and has already played 215 NHL games with our club (more than Barron and Harris combined).

Weegar has been playing LD for most of the year. Most of his time in CGY actually.

Lmao Matheson is not better offensively, and to say Weegar is probably better defensively is like saying Suzuki is probably better than Mike Hoffman defensively.

As for pairing with Andersson, that would be terrible, Andersson is serviceable defensively but nothing amazing.

And as for value, Matheson is worth at most a 3rd, Whereas Weegar is a top 20 defenseman in the league
