Is spence that good?

Feels like an overpay on contract and assets but I may be missing something.

I'd do the overall trade if they threw in turcotte tho

I think we could wait a year and get the same or more for marino, and do the same spence trade. And I don't think marino for spence makes us better next year

If he could become Severson that would be a steal.

I think tho we could probably delay the marino trade a year and get the same amount, if not more.

Who is paying a "massive haul" for Hamilton, who has a 10 team trade list he can accept to, in the years of massive signing bonuses? The Devils don't hold the cards to get a massive haul.

Matt Roy is going to demand too much which will make Spence unmovable, the Kings also will likely need to move on from Lizotte who has earned a pay raise which opens a role for Turcotte to be a favorite over Akil Thomas as 4C.

If the Kings reup Roy, Spence will be available, if Roy moves on, almost impossible they move him, he's outplayed Clarke this season and is the biggest favorite to move into the top-4 with his play on the power play this season.

nah man. rhd like hamilton should return something amazing if somewhat injury free. cap hit% will be less than 10 from 2025 and onward.
besides, wouldn't be the end of the world if they'd just keep hamilton and use casey as a trade chip instead

I'm not sure when the payment schedule is for hamilton's signing bonuses but if you trade him right after the big 10 mill one it becomes 3 years of hamilton for 14.65 million. Even with the 10.5 mill in bonuses its still 26 mill for 3 years of his contracts, or right in line with his cap hits

His SB is $10.5m for 25-26, then $7.4m the year after.

Somewhat injury free seems like a big ask from Hamilton at this point. If they trade him after July 1st for the SB, and eat the full $10.5 (not sure how much the owners would love that), still need one of the 10 teams he'd be interested in to A) be interested back B) have the assets C) have the cap room. Heck of an ask.

His base salary in both those years is only 1 million. overall 19.9 million for 2 years of hamilton, then no signing bonus and a 5.3 mill base salary in the last year. Overall he will make 25.2 mill in the last 3 years of his deal, or 8.4 mill a year. Less than his AAV.

And if we eat the signing bonus it then becomes 14.7 mill total for 3 years of hamilton, which is a real money bargain

I wouldn't be expecting a haul for dougie tho. I think if we could get a late 1st for the last 3 years I'd be happy

And yet, we would need multiple teams that he'd be interested in going to to be interested back to have any kind of major value return

Yeah I wouldn't expect anything huge. If we could send him for a late 1st going into the 2025-26 season I'd do that 100%

Yeah, my argument is more the idea of a "huge haul". If he went for a 1st and you walk away from that cap hit and start over with a smaller Seamus Casey trying to be a more mobile D, I can dig it. I just don't see the return being anything bigger than a late 1st and a kicker.

I'd agree. The important thing is ensuring we can stay in a good spot cap wise and get Luke and Nemec locked up long term. (Luke should 100% be extended for 8 years this offseason)

I agree, and why I think it is nuts for anyone to think we should go big bucks on Hanifan is it just ruins our cap and it won't be as easy as some think to move Hamilton, especially if he gets hurt again.

I have no qualms with Mercer other than he’s not good enough to be the primary compensation for Swayman.

I like Mercer a lot and am more willing to trade Sway then some other bruins fans, so I'm not opposed to something like this tbh. I don't think the bruins would say yes, but I'm not personally opposed.
