Late 1st will suffice. So this deal makes sense. Any less and I predict Toronto just keeps him.

That's about the value I'd say. Not sure if the Leafs would want to do it though. He's a young, cost controlled RD who has performed well for them.

I'd say that price is about right, as it's basically what we got for Sandin.

Doubt he's for sale though.

Any person saying that the price is a 1st is a bias Leafs fan… it’s not.

He’s a third pairing defender that struggles to stay healthy and consistent. Those aren’t worth 1st round picks.

In reality, good chance he’s moved this off-season from what I’ve heard but it’s more than likely in a deal to bring in another guy on the backend. Leafs are pretty thin on the blueline so unless a guy replaces Liljegren in a deal or they have a side deal to get another guy then he’s not moved. If they have a side deal to get someone and need to move Liljegren out, a mid to late 2nd would be the highest they could get

As an outsider, the best comparison is Siegenthaler, so I would say a late second would be good

A 1st for a guy who's better as a 3rd pair guy than a 2nd pair guy is not good at all.

Since the Leafs have just four NHL Dman contract next season, and RFA Liljegren, gotta think. he stays a Leafs.
Yes he has been injured a lot. But for a guy who plays 19:40 minutes a night on a top 10 league team, he's doesn't seem to get much respect on CF.
The Leafs have the cap for two UFA, RHD Dmen, but I still think Liljegren stays.

Right shot young defenceman who is still a RFA won't be given away cheaply for a late 1st. Leafs spent years developing this guy to become a top 4 D man, they're not going to give him away at the finish line. Sandin is flourishing in Washington in part because he was developed by the Leafs. Also, you have to remember that apart from the phenoms like Makar and Hughes most young defencemen don't fully show their full talent until they're 25 or 26. Liljegren is only beginning to become what the Leafs envisioned he would be when they drafted him.

If I was to move him I would look at a hockey trade. No picks like Sandin

Like not saying either would do but if OTT called and offered Pinto I would have to ponder it

But thats the kind of trade I would eye. Someone who can play C and when JT's gone push into the 2c spot
