I doubt it. The 1st isn't this year although its a good pick next year. Not too interested in a waiver pickup dman, an undersized winger with only decent production in junior at 20 years old.
Maybe Newhook + 1st?

The pick next year is more valuable than anything we're going to get. Montreal and Calgary both are picking top 10 this year and next year I don't see them being that much better. Not to mention the draft is much better so I would take the chance the pick turns into a very very good prospect and move on. Mesar is a solid prospect too.

I do expect them to be better for sure, but I also expect the pick to prob be in the teens at the worst so I'd still be happy with that pick.

I expect them being agressive for a trade (ex : Necas, Zegras, etc.) and also agressive for a top-6 foward via free agency (ex : Stamkos, Marchessault).

Chychrun isn’t Bobby Orr, calm down. Can’t understand how you could imagine one moment that he would be worth a top ten pick. Chychrun is a year away from free agency, can’t expect a bigger return than what the Flames got for Hanifin.

A simple look at Detroit's roster and you'd see Detroit doesn't need any more LHDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Detroit wouldn't even trade Raymond for Caufield.

Guhle is an upgrade on the entire position. Edvinson may have a higher ceiling but Guhle is 1st pairing next year on Red Wings.

And no, don’t trade Raymond for Caufield.

O thank god someone to make people realize MTL and OTT arent trade partners on something like this
We picked over Chychrun in the draft after BUF chose Alex Nylander outta no where over Sergachev , he fell into MTL's laps but he wasnt our guy
Chychrun speaks some French , had 3 interviews and both sides were acting like this was basically a done deal.
After MTL skipped him triggering a free fall outside the top 10 for him he came up in tears acting like a jaded ex
TBH i get he wanted to play for MTL but crying because MTL picked Sergachev over you is a bit telling of his Character and just look at the difference in their careers despite being marketed as equals

MTL trade for a DMAN is like OTT trading for a top line Center, it undermines your entire systems set up

You dont need any D but thats another conversation
What i wanted to point out is Matheson-Guhle is our top pair most of the year
Savard went out Months blocking 3 shots in a row and gave Guhle basically the first half of the year there
Matheson doesnt get to 60 points IMO if any other Dman in our system players Mathesons RD.
We've seen it the last 2 years that Matheson doesnt play well with others a lot of the time.
He needs a guy capable of handling a lot of 2v1 and 3v1 when he turns over the puck or blows entries.

Guhle for that reason will be here long after Mathesons Traded
Guhle is everything we need him to be at such an early age where he's just Reacting .
Give him space to lead with Matheson and Savard gone , it'll be like with Suter and Weber left NSH leading to the rise of Josi, Ellis and Ekholm

I completely disagree with that last part. We have depth and a few redundant pieces, but the Canadiens don’t have a top pairing prospect outside of Reinbacher. And if the Senators are spoiled with top line centres than how are they not in the playoffs?!?!?

I don’t disagree, I see him as chip to get a very good top 6 forward (which we may not have in the system). I like your point even and appreciate how well he performed on the right side.

If we draft someone like Sam Dickinson this year, we may have a true number 1 LHD.

We wont draft a D this early this year for 1 reason
We cant take any D who will be turning Pro in the next 2 upcoming seasons.
We're full all the way down the ECHL right now as Reibachers here , Hutsons here, Engstroms finishing up his SHL Finals after Sweeping the last team and waiting to see who their opponent is.
Thats not including 21 year old Captain Konyuskov who will be joining us in 2 years time with whomever we draft this year
Given Engstroms done all this as a left handed RD at Junior , SHL ,Champions League , WJC and WC it safe to say he's a RD at every level so far which works as he has size and never stops skating

Hughes did something Rare
When he came in he waited before moving out MB Pieces
He let his choices compete directly beside MB and is taking the best from either regardless .
He's also increasing Value on MB Picks like Harris and Struble who Hughes actually coached and they in turn played Mentor to his Son when he turned Pro in the NCAA years later.
Those were guys most people said wouldnt sign with MTL either as harris was a Pending UFA who had an out and chose to star during a time MTL just fired everyone and direction was uncertain.

Tij Iginla being taken 5-10 spots early is a better option then drafting a D
I say that wanting 6'7 Mobile D Silayev as he fits our Timeline if not our needs and his rights are indefinite
But that said Lindstrom,Eiserman,Iginla, and Catton arent guys you pass on and if Demidov falls that low you pounce on him
What you dont do is waste a top 5 pick in a draft where the top 5 ranked D overall has no concensus with Dickinson being #1 and #5 ranked D on peoples lists
But the same is said for Silayev and even Levushunov and Parekh among others. Yammerchuk or whatever his name is , he's the only consistent one ranked by most everyone 10th -12th OA and #5 or 6 D overall in the draft. Last time this happened was 2003 in what most call the most stacked Draft of all time where HOFers are found in the 1st round as often as in the 2nd round and #245 Dustin Byfluglien finished 4th Best D in the re-draft ahead of #9 in Dion Phaneuf

This year we'll see a lot of Quality D as it seems like Every League world wide has contributions of note for once.
Russia even has multiple top 3 round picks options at multiple levels in multiple systems for the first time in really a decade TBH

Far as True #1D lets remember #7 Ryan Suter taken by NSH before #49 Shea Weber who took a year longer
But it was still Weber not Suter who was chosen as the True #1 D and Suter left because of it for a team where he was
Only for them to buy him out after he proved he was more of a #2 or 3 guy after all and not a True #1 guy.

TBH its more likely Reinbacher becomes that guy then Dickinson because he'll Anchor Hutson and be the Glue for MTL for years
That Said Xhekaj-Mailloux's Chemistry as a top 5 D in the AHL who's team went 12-3-2 in their time together after Xhekaj stopped a 7 game losing streak after joining.
Mailloux thought he was an Alpha then Xhekaj went down and suddenly Mailloux's struggles ended in the first 2 games really.
Given their success as 200ft players eating up 22-23 minutes in Laval i'd suspect they'll also play a factor here.

Reality is MTL doesnt ultimately NEED a true #1 right now as Matheson eating up Minutes has negatively impacted a lot of our young D.
Ideally we need to move out our true #1 and roll a 3 pair rotation until 1/6 D step up and stand out.
To many young guns get held down playing behind #1 D who can average 25 but play up to 30-32 minutes some games.
Really though i think because of that depth and because of Reinbacher that Hutson has a real shot at it and if not Reinbacher will.
It all depends as Hutson with Willander was Defense First and a playmaker as Willander had skills on par with his giving options.
But Hutson with Physical McCarthy Brothers or Ty Gallagher was all out offense which we saw a burst of when Pandolfo put Willander with 6'7 Cade Weber in the Division Playoffs
After that Gavin McCarthy i believe it was became the mainstay with Hutson the rest of the year who went from not expected to break or meet last years numbers to surpassing them in less time sadly

D Development is all about timing and giving them Minutes.
Matheson for example never really got those minutes anywhere else
In MTL there was little choice being the most injured NHL Team in terms of man games lost since 2017
So Matheson had 25+ minutes thrust upon him and struggled at first then found consistency and over 2 years showed growth
Harris is going to be our Matheson because we dont invest minutes in him and deny him growth as he's no longer Waiver Exempt so sending him down isnt an option

Still we don't need any LHDs and we definitely aren't giving up Raymond. The way Raymond turned it on in Larkin absence and the way has played when the games mean something. You can consider Raymond untouchable.

Agreed and i wouldnt say otherwise Raymond is a solid player

but you keep saying "LHD" as if you dont grasp the concept that players with a strong enough Back band pass/shot coupled with the Hockey IQ to not put yourself in a position to be boarded trying to get to your forehand to make a play like most do cause their back hands weak. To me that is a selling feature not a deterrent. Guhle is a Dman who can play top pair on either side without looking out of place at all. Name me 10 NHL D all time who did that consistently

Morgan Reilly playing better offensively on his off side aka RD happens for 1 reasons
Its uncommon for a Goalie or D to have to cover those shooting lanes as people dont often play their off side with offensive success and while staying healthy.
To be able to use this to your advantage as a coach dressing him on either LD or RD knowing consistency wont drop is a bonus not a negative.

You're acting like we're giving you Harris who has like maybe a dozen games playing his offside and got hurt last time he did.

So Detroit should trade a position that they don"t have any prospects of even somewhat equivalent caliber (Mazur is good but no Raymond) for an "upgrade" (don't doubt Edvinsson will be better than Guhle)?

Detroit trades their 2nd best forward (Probably headed toward being their best in 2-3 years) for a young LHD.

Guhle is great. Gonna be a real good defender... We have Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, and Buium all on the left. We're not giving you Raymond to get ANOTHER LHD.

laugh Guhle and a late 1st round pick is a major joke for Lucas Raymond, Calling Guhle a major upgrade on Detroit's blueline is a joke. So is Simon Edvinsson a first pairing LHD who's a country mile better than Kaiden Guhle. It would take one of Cole Caufield Juraj Slafkovsky or David Reinbacher as a starting piece. Not Kaiden Guhle and a late 1st round pick this trade is a royal joke.

dont ever count your chickens before they hatch, you should look up the conditions on the CGY pick, no chance OTT will get a top 10 pick, and you dont know how CGY will be next year, they could be nexts years VAN and play well. MTL is will by high degree of certainty rec eive FLA 1st round pick from CGY not CGYs this this will be a late first for trading chych to a divisional rival.

I disagree now some players don’t mind playing on their off side but they are at a definite disadvantage. Trying to hold the puck in the player on their forehand is going to win that battle more times than not. You can put your ass to the boards and stop it with your skate and leg but then it’s really hard to make a play from that position. You are basically waiting for another player to come along and dig it out. In the defensive zone along the boards you run in to the same problems. Plus clearing the puck up the boards becomes a problem because your constantly hitting the boards at an unfavorable angle and instead of going up the boards the puck pops out to the middle of the of the zone where the defenseman on the other side or a back checking forward can easily turn it in to a quality scoring opportunity. When it comes to hockey IQ it’s almost negligible. Let’s use Guhle as an example. He has a high hockey IQ and wether he’s in the 1st or 2nd pair he’s going to be seeing a lot of the other teams 1st and 2nd lines and most of them have high hockey IQs as well. You can’t tell me that a top 6 winger isn’t looking at a defenseman on his side and seeing that as a weakness he can exploit. If you were to poll GMs and coaches I think a lot of them would rather have RHDs on the right and LHDs on the left especially in their 1st and 2nd pairs. Sometimes they are forced to play defensemen on their off side like with the Wings last season after trading Hronek we didn’t have another NHL ready RHD so Chariot played on the right side. With Montreal this season Guhle on his off side is still better than any of your other RHDs except Savard so it makes sense to play him on the right. But if Montreal had a choice they would prefer him on the left.

Would Guhle play above all our current LHDs probably every one but Edvinsson and we do have some very good LHDs in our system. But upgrading a position that is set, when we have holes in other spots that desperately need attention would be poor roster management . As I've been saying about trading for Chychrun, it's a luxury we can't afford right now and it applies to Guhle as well.
