Tear it down like Chicago

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2024
Published: Apr. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If by TD next year, the team is still unable to secure a top 3 position in the division.

Sell off EVERYTHING, even Crosby, Malkin and Letang if you can.

- take a bunch of bad contracts and accumulate a ton of draft capital to try to draft Misa and Mckenna.

- go the MTL, SJS and CHI route - and within 4 years - you'll be back competing. If not, you'll lose these guys to retirement, UFA or a case of Vlasic-sickness.

Don't take that chance, because if you don't money your assets right now - your rebuild will take 10 years like Buffalo and NJD.

I'm not a Pitt fan - so these values are all over the map - some may be VERY overvalued, some may be undervalued...

The point is that with Malkin and Crosby alone - you could fetch 2 first round pick and 2 great prospects equivalent to 4 first round picks.

Letang or karlsson retained can fetch you a huge package (especially for PMD RHD) - Letang at 3M$ and Karlsson at 5M$ is GOLDEN.

TBH - I did do a great job with the TANK - I think this team could still compete lol.

I agree with your approach. This was the healthiest PIT team in decades, and they didn't make the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. Gotta make tough decisions. Do you want to win OR do you want to stick your head in the sand.

Crosby will decide where he goes if he goes. And I would guarantee it won't be Winnipeg.

Also only on capfriendly does TO have to pay more for Bunting and Letang than someone has to pay to get Crosby.

Well Topi, Robertson and Reaves have close to 0 value in my book - below replacements players.

but yeah the deal could be

Knies and 2 first for Bunting and Letang (50% off for 3 years).

Well if they have the team to win a cup... he might go.

And at the end of the Day - doesn't have to be Winnipeg. Just a team who can pay a A prospect and a first.

Robertson has more goals this season thank Bunting did in Carolina... At 1/6th the price

And Topi is nearly NHL ready... and the best defensive prospect in the Leafs system... So, Letang's not worth that, especially at 36

Just a Habs fan trolling us; sad but I guess they have nothing else to do 🤷🏻. At least not until the draft 😂

TBH, that's a fair analysis wink cheers

I just hope MTL and TML get to a similar level for a few years - those are alway great game, but it's not AS fun when one of the team is rebuilding.

Your core is approaching it's peak, ours is starting to form - I think 2026-2027 will have epic rivalry games.

Leafs vs Habs for Atlantic (maybe with a beat down of Boston by either team on the way) would be epic.
Obviously Bettman is bit I’m not a huge fan of parity - not saying those teams aren’t legit, but no one really cares if small market teams Florida, Carolina or Tampa advance 🤷🏻

Lol you are nuts. Knies is worth way more than Bunting and Letang's contract is terrible. Hard pass. The only guy on Pittsburgh TO would want is Crosby.

He's apparently said he would consider TO and Colorado and that's it.

Pens block the habs and kings number without a second thought .
The jets deal isn’t happening for many many reasons .
But I definitely can see them entertaining the last three deals

that is still crazy Knies will be better than bunting in a year or 2 and the leafs didnt want to keep bunting they let him walk and who wants letang on a 35+ contract until he is 40 years old. not even close.

Well I hate Bahl, so for me, it be him with adds (2025 2nd?). The expectation is Bahl develops into a Petey type. Waiting 4 years for that to maybe happen is not worth it imo

Childhood team.

And expect that Crosby will gonna have few seasons before that he will gonna anounce his retirement.
