Jacob Markstrom, sub 0.900 over the last 2 years, in his mid 30s, returns more than double the largest goalie package of the last decade.

Again, he's much closer to Fleury from Chicago to Minnesota

A 25 first and Holtz probably gets it done at 50% retained. Jersey would have no interest in Mangiapane.
CAL really screwed things up by fumbling this situation at the deadline

As a Flames fan I like it, not sure if the Devils will tho. The retention is good, but not sure what Mangiapani is worth, certainly not a 1st maybe a 3rd.

I didn't realize Markstrom was 26 year old prime Brodeur lol.

Few are. Maybe game 1 of the 1994 Cup Final Kirk McLean, but few else.

At this point, Markstrom feels more like a cap dump at his salary than a long term solution as a goaltender. CGY really fumbled by not selling at his peak value during the season, whatever the reason is. His last 10 games look particularly ugly. The value goes down even further because the devils no longer have to unload Vanacek’s contract to make this fit in their salary structure.

To be fair, peak value is offseason at the draft where teams have salary flexibility (ie, more capable offers). What killed the Devils trying to get him was retainment. I'm guessing the offer was Vanecek, a conditional first and a B prospect (like Graeme Clarke) and for Markstrom 2M retained.

By the time Conroy agreed and got the player to waive NTC, it was just Holtz for Markstrom ($2 million retained). No picks, no Vanecek (both were discussed in earlier iterations) .

Media fueled rumour. The media desperately wanted New Jersey to lose this trade, so I don't really buy it.
