Chicago is paying for the privilege of taking Skinner off your hands? What?

How are you paying? You move up in the draft and get another NHL forward, for a kid that is coming back from a serious injury in juniors

It is definitely a different thought process that gets you to the point where you believe the Sabres can move Skinner and his remaining 3 x $9m and all it costs you is flipping 1st round picks and a disappointing former 1st round pick for a solid prospect.

The Hawks easily decline, remove Savoie and the 1st round pick going to Buffalo and they MAY consider this proposal.

There’s just no way of moving Skinner. Even if he didn’t have a NMC 3 years at 9 million is almost impossible to move.

Right… interesting that you as a Sabres fan would be asking for a guy that is not a solid prospect.

Chicago management would definitely disagree with your assessment given the fact they signed him pretty quickly after being drafted. This past season was derailed early in due to a broken leg but he was back on the ice quicker then expected and finished the season strongly in the Q.

They view him as a potential Andrew Shaw. We'll see, but that type of player has a role on teams.

I really just don't want Skinner almost regardless of the price the Hawks are getting. That 3rd year is an absolute crusher. We can take 2 year deals all day long, but 3 is too much. I'm much more in favor of Anders Lee and JGP. They also provide more leadership and the meat/potatoes work for a 200' game.

Oh yeah Krebs is a real hot asset, everyone in the NHL is thinking "How can we get someone else's failed 1st round pick, and 15 points in 80 games"

I'm 100% with you on all of this, exo - including like Lee and JGP on the Hawks. The only thing that might change my mind about Skinner is if BUF were to retain a BIG chunk of his salary (i.e., say, $4mm). Then, if the Hawks have a problem with that 3rd year of his contract, the Hawks could just him out at that point.

For a 3rd round pick, Savoie is a really interesting player. You can't watch him play and not think of Andrew Shaw. Just don't see the Hawks moving him out before they see how he does in the AHL. He could be a really solid bottom 6 player.

The Hawks might be interested in the swap of 1st's to take Skinner, but as @exo2769 stated, the 3rd year on Skinner's contract might be the dealbreaker. I also don't see Skinner waiving with the Sabres knocking on the door to the playoffs.

I don’t hate the Vegas trade here, but the others don’t make a lot of sense. Not that I dislike the Ottawa deal, but I don’t see why they would do it. The only issue with adding William Karlsson is paying about $6 million a year for a third line Center. If they were prepared to do that, maybe they would just have kept Mittelstadt.

Right, Shaw was a 3rd liner at his peak

Many 1st rounders don't amount to that.
