I know Marner is a great player, but that 12x8 he signs is going to be scary for some teams, especially a team like Seattle who in my opinion is still trying to figure out their future. He could turn out to be a great guy to be playing with Beniers and company, but if that does not pan out, that 8oa pick, prospect, and bjorkstrand package could look seriously ugly for Seattle

I just feel like only super ballsy teams will go after him, like maybe Vegas if they had the cap I guess

Knight didn't get beat out he has mental or drug issues. He entered into the player rehabilitation program a bit ago

I think Florida may buy out Knight. They need cap space badly and his value is quite low right now

Liljegren can move the puck but he doesn't have enough offensive upside to replace Montour. FLR probably has no interest in moving their goalie of the future considering Bobrovsky who turns 36 in September. Knight is only 23, by the time he's 25/26, he'll be ready to take over or play in a tandem with Bobrovsky who has 2-years left on his deal.

If they do trade Knight, it's likely out of division and for a significant piece that they want, not just a change of scenery candidate + a future.

Disagree. Seattle has one of the best prospect pools on the league and is probably in the best position in the league to make this move. Firkus, rephkohf, Goyette, Morrison, wright, Berniers, sale, Evans, nelson...list goes on. They can afford to lose their prospects and still have a bright future.

Seattle isn't trading a top 10 pick for a rental.

I know, I just think that Marner is a Win Now kind of purchase, if I am Seattle, I want to have the cap space to pay every single one of my prospects

Personally I don’t think so there only reason being is that Marner talent is undeniable but he needs market where he can be a little more out of the spotlight.

The reason I picked Seattle is that I don’t think they need more prospects. They have a really deep pool as is and he would pair well on a line with McCann and Beniers. Then give Shane wright 2nd line with Eberle and Tolvanen.

That my 2 cents on the trade imo

Their pool is deep and made the playoffs last year. Perfect move for them to open up a contention window

Didn’t know anything about that.

I just taught he was in the AHL cause Stolarz beat him out and he’s waiver eligible.

I think they’re gonna commit to Stolarz and if they do that they need an RHD.

Liljegren offensive upside but I don’t think it was ever going to be unlocked in Keefe system. Maybe it gets unlocked under Paul Maurice as he did that with Montour, Forsling, Pionk and Morrisey.

Seattle? What's your point? They'll probably trade for Marner but Wright and #8 are absolutely off the table

Knight wasn’t beaten out, was sent to the AHL so that he can start the majority of games and find his game again seeing he was out for almost a year. Doubt the Cats move him for this offer.

Why is 8 off the table?

You’re getting a top 5 RW in the leagues. The Odds number 8 becomes a a player just as impactful as Marner is extremely low.

Even if the leafs draft Dickson, Parekh, Levshkov, Silayev or Yamenchuk I doubt they’ll be a true top 5 player at their position like Marner

They have 19.7M in cap to sign 9-guys to have a 23-man roster. It just means that they can't sing all their big ticket guys. Buying out their goalie of the future would be foolish. More than likely they walk from several of their UFAs. Montour is 30, he's set to get low-end top-pairing money based on just two seasons with the second one significantly worse in comparison to the first. It's not that difficult of a decision to let him go to avoid a cap squeeze. If they do want to spend big-money on a RD with offensive upside, I think they would pursue Hronek (if Vancouver makes him available). I think they would probably just take a flyer on someone (maybe Klingberg) in FA like they did with OEL. Reinhart is the big one that they probably want to sign, he'll probably need to take something between 8.5-9.25M for them to keep him though. The rest of the guys are bottom 6 guys, so they aren't going to shell out cash to keep all of them if they want significant deals. From RFAs there's Lundell who'll likely get a bridge-deal.

If we assume they sign Reinhart for 8.75M, Lundell for 3M and another guy for 3M, leaves them an average of 825K for the last 6-guys. Of course, Reinhart could want a lot more, which likely prices him out, so they won't have much difficulty. It's the following season that they would need to worry about since Ekblad, Verhaeghe, and Bennett need new deals, especially if Reinhart is re-signed.

Just an idea I had.

The reason I did this trade as it helps Florida in 2 areas. Getting back a young const controlled RHD to replace Montour and clear cap space to resign Reinhart.

Before they trade Marner they’ll let the team talk to him to figure out and extension

You’re pulling on string that doesn’t exist.

Don’t you think that Ron Francis wouldn’t have an extension in place if he traded for Marner?

No he wouldn't because he's not allowed to discuss that with him prior to July 1st and without permission to talk to him from Toronto.

I'm not pulling on strings that don't exist, you are trying to sell a player as more than a rental when they aren't

I do think Liljegren's offense can be unlocked, but I don't think someone will rely on that and move a significant piece for him (+ a 1st) unless it's a retooling/rebuilding team.

Stolarz is set to make 3.5M+x3 or 4 and which would be a lot for a backup, and while that's less than Knight, he's 30 which isn't too old for a goalie but he's much older than Knight. They'll have a much longer window with Knight if he becomes elite at 25-26 than with Stolarz.
