you are not getting a #10 OA 1st AND Holtz (even with a swap) for JM, time to stop

Its a pick swap bud. You move back and give up a younger roster player for an elite goaltender. Its not as bad as you are thinking

Without retention, I'm not even sure Holtz would be an option for Markstrom. (let alone the #10 pick)

In February, the rumored trade was Holtz for Markstrom (with about $2m retained).

    Since then....
    -- Marktsrom has been sub-0.900
-- Markstrom has called out his GM
-- Markstrom has declined trades elsewhere
-- There is one less season.
    -- Devils added Allen
-- More goalies coming on summer market

It should be a bit less than February trade.

No chance Leafs give up the higher pick; JT is the better player (certainly has been his entire career) and will put comparable numbers to Kadri in 24-25 and only has one year left. The Kadri deal won’t age well

They have the Cap space to retain so im sure that could happen. I don't think Jake Allen is the answer in New Jersey. He has mostly been a career backup with a handful of seasons as a starter and that was back when he was pretty fresh into the league. I think that is the obvious position of upgrade needed

Personally I like Kadri's game more. More grit and in your face hockey is what they need in the playoffs. the Leafs are too soft as is and that kills them in the playoffs.

On top of that Kadri is a cup champion and that kind of success goes a long way in a locker room. JT could take a discount to come back the year after but I would say Kadri's game would give another layer to the Leafs again

You understand Kadri was a former Leaf? You don’t need to explain his playoff performance levels; abysmal in Toronto with two series altering suspensions (although 2nd one was typical Leafs railroad job - DeBrusk with illegal knee on knee went uncalled just prior)

Sure it is. JM is NOT worth a 10th OA. I get the swap (and I said as much).
His price was less when CGY had the leverage at tdl, it does not go up in June. Ullmark is being discussed at a '25 1st from us, he's got more value than JM, so work from that. I did, and it's basically a 2nd. Even Bruins fans are thinking less now. Conroy did well in his first few moves, he's not getting this. Lastly moving back to 28th is not nearly worth it.

Ullmark certainly is worth a good bit. I can understand where the Devils are coming from with targeting him. Fair to say pull the pick swap and add a 3rd going back to NJ for Holtz than?

Rasmus is worth that to some team, just not us. If it was Weegar i’d do it.

can we do that for Weegar instead

I’d also do Chychrun + Boston’s 1st for Weegar. throw boucher in there too if you want

Have faith in Coronato. It’s his first year, he’ll adapt. Not much in return for Andersson, I’d say he brings back at least that Marky package, probably more. The Marky ship has sailed. Unless he starts next season looking like Mikka Kiprusoff, there’s no way he gets that package.

Why would the caps be adding to basically just get a one year younger (and less NHL ready) version of McMichael

RW support, the area we lack strong youth the most outside of Leonard and Protas that is

I agree we shouldn’t be able to get 10 OA. But any goalie losing guys like tanev and hannifin will take hits to their stats it’s realistic that they drop

That would be least of my worries.

I am more worried that the relationship between CGY, NJD may have soured to point where we may miss a good trade opportunity.

The performance after deadline is mostly just noise.

No. Full NMC, 35 years old, 6m cap hit, disgruntled with Flames management and playing terribly post TDL - Markström shouldn't cost the Devils more than a 2nd rd pick at this point in time, if even that.
    Certainly not frickin Alexander Holtz.
