Hawks aren’t paying anything for Mikheyev. They would need to be compensated for taking him. Chatfield will have plenty of suitors in free agency, Nucks aren’t getting him for that little.

Any idea what Hronek wants in salary? If his expectations are reasonable, I can see the Habs getting interested, especially if they decide to trade Barron & Savard.

I think between Mailloux and Reinbacher, we are already set for a 2nd pairing d-man.

However, if KH sees a minute eating monster of a first pairing RD in Reinbacher, then maybe Hronek looks good on a second pairing.

Things just don’t seem to match up well though.

I think we need more of a shutdown RD to play with Hutson, provided we play Guhle & Reinbacher on the top pairing.

If Hutson & Reinbacher are a duo, I’m not sure Hronek is the guy you want on your 1st pairing with Guhle to try and counter the opposition’s best.

I agree with the questions that come out when trying to project the future Habs. At the same time, I simply don't believe a team can win in the playoffs with a bunch of 20-25 year old defenders. I think you want a couple of 29-33 year old guys who can keep calm and lead the charge.

While I like Mailloux & Reinbacher's future and believe they both will be really good defenders, depth is important, not just in case of injuries, but in the sense of creating internal competition.

If Reinbacher becomes a top pair guy, let it be because he beat out Hronek & Mailloux (and possibly Guhle) for the job.

If Mailloux becomes a 2nd pair defender, let it be because he beat out Hronek.

If Hutson is gonna be on PP1, let it be because he beat out Matheson...

Personally I would love to see a pair of Matheson & Hronek out there. I think the transition play would be really fun to watch!

Next year we could expect:

Matheson Hronek
Hutson Guhle
Xhekaj Savard
Struble Harris

and we should trade Barron & Kovacevic

No chance the Jets trade Ehlers for picks alone.

You are seriously dreaming if you expect the Hawks or any other team to pay for Mikheyev, it will take at a minimum a 2nd round pick to move the final two years of his $4.75m per season contract.

@bredtoshred the going rate for dumping Mikheyev here has been a 2nd round pick to the Hawks and FC to Nucks. You are gonna be hard pressed to convince any Hawks fans to take less in a deal. Especially Hawks paying to acquire him.
