Quoting: MONSTER1974
I think between Mailloux and Reinbacher, we are already set for a 2nd pairing d-man.
However, if KH sees a minute eating monster of a first pairing RD in Reinbacher, then maybe Hronek looks good on a second pairing.
Things just don’t seem to match up well though.
I think we need more of a shutdown RD to play with Hutson, provided we play Guhle & Reinbacher on the top pairing.
If Hutson & Reinbacher are a duo, I’m not sure Hronek is the guy you want on your 1st pairing with Guhle to try and counter the opposition’s best.
I agree with the questions that come out when trying to project the future Habs. At the same time, I simply don't believe a team can win in the playoffs with a bunch of 20-25 year old defenders. I think you want a couple of 29-33 year old guys who can keep calm and lead the charge.
While I like Mailloux & Reinbacher's future and believe they both will be really good defenders, depth is important, not just in case of injuries, but in the sense of creating internal competition.
If Reinbacher becomes a top pair guy, let it be because he beat out Hronek & Mailloux (and possibly Guhle) for the job.
If Mailloux becomes a 2nd pair defender, let it be because he beat out Hronek.
If Hutson is gonna be on PP1, let it be because he beat out Matheson...
Personally I would love to see a pair of Matheson & Hronek out there. I think the transition play would be really fun to watch!
Next year we could expect:
Matheson Hronek
Hutson Guhle
Xhekaj Savard
Struble Harris
and we should trade Barron & Kovacevic
