Detailed Offseason Outlook

Description
Full offseason outlook/moves I want to see happen. Gonna be a lot of text in this one. I try to explain the rationale for all my moves. Trade explanations accompany the trades themselves, signing explanations will be in this description.

Overall, this next year is going to be a bridge year between the previous window and the new window. Guys like Nadeau and Blake getting development time while we wait for Nikishin to come over next year. I think this team makes the playoffs, but I wouldn't call it a cup contending team. This is a soft retool: letting veterans walk and handing the keys over to the young guys, while acquiring picks/prospects for long term success.

I think Blake and Morrow should spend the year in the NHL, while Nedeau and Under Sorum stay in the AHL now that we actually have an affiliate. Other than that, I think I have descriptions for all the moves I made.

Jarvis 7 x 8

This one is a no brainer, give Jarvis whatever he wants. He scored 33 goals with a torn rotator cuff and labrum all season. Max I would be willing to give is a 8 x 8, but I don't think Jarvis is going to demand that much.

Suzuki 850,000 x 2

It's do or die time for Suzuki, we need to give him NHL time. If it doesn't work out, he's a prime bounceback candidate on another team and we might be able to recoup some value.

Chatfield 2.5 x 3

Chatfield is solid, a borderline second pair guy but ideally not. He's there to hold down the fort until Morrow and Nystrom are ready to take his place. He's earned a raise but I think we should still keep him around.

Guentzel 9 x 7

Guentzel looked great with the hurricanes, he's been exactly the kind of offensive player they needed, and as long as he doesn't fall off rapidly, he should be a core contributor for a very long time.

Martinook 1.5 x 2

MISTAAAA SVECHNIKOV

Noesen 2.5 x 2

Excellent depth guy. I'm worried about how his skill set will age so I think a shorter term contract would be better.

Trades

CAR
  1. Roy, Joshua
  2. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Difficult to judge Necas' value. On one hand, everyone knows he is going to leave and he's only had one season at 70 points, on the other, analytics are very high on him, I could see him breaking out in a more offensive system and there's a lot of interest in him. This is what I settled on. A blue chip prospect and a first should be fair. I'm going to get habs fans and canes fans telling me that this is a massive over/underpay no matter what I put.
MTL
  1. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
2.
CAR
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Any team needing forward/center depth. Maybe a slight overpay, but Drury showed he can be a legit 2C on a cup contending team so I think it's fair.
BUF
  1. Drury, Jack [RFA Rights]
3.
CAR
  1. 2024 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Any team needing a 6D. For the Canucks, he's an upgrade over Ian Cole at least.
VAN
  1. Coghlan, Dylan [RFA Rights]
4.
CAR
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
KK needs to go and I don't like the possibility of a buyout. San Jose gets a contract to reach the cap floor and some assets, as well as the possibility of KK turning things around with a larger role. I wanted to bring on a veteran LD, so this just means we don't have to sign one as a UFA.
SJS
  1. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
  2. 2024 4th round pick (PHI)
  3. 2024 6th round pick (OTT)
5.
CAR
  1. 2024 4th round pick (LAK)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
LA needs a #1 goalie with Talbot a UFA and I think it's time to make Kochetkov the full time starter. It's difficult to gage Anderson's value, as he's been very up and down, especially with his injuries, but I think this is fair for a guy that is a top 10 goalie when healthy and on his game.

I'd consider that return for Andersen if Carolina retains 50%. Otherwise, that's too much to invest in an oft-injured goaltender.

I'd do this as a Habs fan. I think Roy has a ton of potential but Necas is young enough to fit the window

Sharks pass. That contract is way too long. Sharks would only look for cap dumps who can be contributors and are on short term deals. in other words, overpaid vets.

They can sign free agents to get to the cap floor

I would rather have Roy TBH, he has 50+ point potential and is significantly better in his own end. The fact that we are adding a 1st makes this an easy no for me.

Don’t get some of the moves.

I wouldn’t trade Drury to give Suzuki time - just move Suzuki unless he absolutely wows at camp.

No chance we don’t spend to the cap - doesn’t have to be careless spending but that’s just not happening regardless of this being a “transitional” year or not.

Koochie Martin combo doesn’t make sense either. Just keep Freddy and give Koochie the 1A job and see what he can do.

Also think Nadeau and FUS have a better shot at making lineup than Blake but we’ll see on that one.

any attempt to dump KK starts with a 1st and sharks probably still pass.

I, for one, would love to have Mr. Drury in Buffalo for that price.
