What's the NHL view on #8 overall Casey Mittlestadt? I know sabres fans can get ahead of themselves, myself included, on the value of their prospects and players. So I just wanna see what other fans think of him.

Too High. Wasn't what they needed. Should have taken Vilardi IMO or Tippett

Explain. Vilardi has a problem with skating and tippet I think is less skilled but still very good.

Too many similar players to Mittlestat that are already on Buffalo. Tippet is a winger that can replace Okposo possibly by next season. And Vilardi is a more diverse player IMO

Similar players? Eichel is pretty different and O'Reilly is very different. Reinhart can and will be a winger, Nylander is a scoring winger, and centers can easily play the wing. You draft on skill mostly in the NHL rather than position. Vilardi is a big body and that's his upside. Sabres don't need any slow centers in the new Housley system so he doesn't fit. Tippet is just less skilled.

This draft was really hard to determine rankings for. A lot of similar players, a lot of players that were rising very quickly and some that were falling…made it interchangeable for the most part between about five and 11. I personally am a huge Mittelstadt fan. I think he has some exceptional skill and will be a very good NHL player. A good pick for Buffalo

Very true. Players jumping all over the place in the rankings. Like Liljegren who dropped immensely. More so than past drafts.

Being drafted # 8 is any draft means you aren't NHL ready for years almost all the time. Why worry, the soonest he sees a Sabres jersey is 2020.

Say that to Werenski and Willy Nylander. We will see him next year because he was a steal at 8 so

with the lineup buffalo has he probably could. I believe Tippett is the better player and what Buffalo should have been going for but I do think he has a shot at cracking the lineup

I'm probably showing some bias, but I believe Mittelstadt was a flat out steal at 8.

I'll put it this way, if I could only keep one of Nylander, Mittelstadt, or Reinhart, I'd keep Mittelstadt. I have a detailed reason as to why I think Mittelstadt is an excellent player below.

that's not the point. The point is that the game is changed, youngsters can prove themselves a lot earlier that they could 10, 20 years ago.

The kid needs to bulk up some more, and he will be ready in a couple of years.
