I’m curious which top 4 d was available for Copp? Thoughts on who Chevy should have acquired?

Thread:
Is this fair for PLD
Short answer: Nope
I agree with others who’ve posted. PLD isn’t going to be dealt, but let’s assume he was on the block, is the proposed trade something WPG would entertain.
1st is a late first, 20+, so not a ton of value.
Felipe is older, and not likely to play a role in the NHL - zero values
Keyser is a prospect who may make it in the AHL, he’s nothing special, and the Jets wouldn’t improve on Berdin or Holm, so not much value.
Debrusk is solid, but he’s not a young, potential 1C, so not much value there in this type of a deal.
Moore is an NHL d, but the Jets now have a log jam there, and he doesn’t help for the future.
Given that Chevy traded Laine (a sniper in a power forward’s body with a generational release) and a former first round pick who profiles as a middle 6 Center or RW, what would Boston have to offer...
Starts with two of Lysell, Lohrie and Studnicka. Boston doesn’t have the strongest prospects at the moment, so to acquire a 1/2C who is in their prime, the ask is going to be high.
I’m not sure if even two of those would be sufficient. I think a 2nd or a 1st would also be required. Lysell is a very good top 6 wing prospect, Lohrie could play in the top 4 eventually, but Studnicka probably maxes out as a good 2C.
Overall, I don’t see a good fit. Boston won’t part with NHL talent to make the deal, (Jets would want either a top 2 D or Center in return) or a couple top flight, top line ceiling prospects.

Arbitration award will be for one year. If a middle six forward is the difference between making the playoffs and not, Chevy should trade most of the top 6 and start the rebuild now. (FYI - I think this team competes for playoffs with or without Copp)

One option is a 1-year deal. Jets can then use the 8th year to resign him as a UFA next year, and save their 22/23 1st round picks trying to acquire a versatile middle six winger at the trade deadline.
I won’t be shocked if he ends up in arbitration.

Jets are back
I hate to point out that there are only 20 players on the active roster.
The deals seem reasonable for a RFA and trade perspective, but I can’t see the team not having any extra roster players. No chance the entire team plays 82 games without an injury.
The Taxi squad won’t exist in 21-22, and even if it did, the team needs to add the player to the active roster, remain cap compliant before they suit up.

Good job Chevy
Neal is interesting, not sure I’ve seen him on a Jets roster yet.
Would he help PP2, probably. Would he contribute anything else, not sure.
I’m thinking the Jets either trade Copp, or will have to go with 22 roster players to free up 750k in cap space.
There might be some night where the 7th D is playing 4th line winger minutes!

And I think the Jets can ‘do something’ without another top 6 forward. They have enough potential top 6 forwards that 2-4 could struggle but all they need is one of the 4-6 players available now to step into the role and own it. Draft, Develop, Perform. Lots of the Ds, need to see who grabs the P.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Prefetti may not be ready, that is a risk, but by April, with a full season or development in the AHL, I won’t bet against him. He is special from a maturity, self awareness and drive perspective.
Wheeler is a solid second line RW. Ignore his stats last season when he was injured. He’s not a top line winger, but he’s still a top 50 RW.
PLD struggled, so did dozens of players last year. He’s very young, and I would take him as a #2 center over 1/2 the league’s #2 Center for next season without hesitating.
Copp, he’s in his prime, what contract will he want and get is the question, but slotting him into a middle 6, PK role is perfect. That’s what he is. Is Tatar better offensively, yup, defensively...not even close.
Stastny is still a very decent middle 6 forward. Is he a top player, nope, is he smarter (hockey IQ) than most players, yup. Will he contribute next year, I won’t bet against him. Though next year is a risk, i’d rather have him than Tatar at the same cap hit and 1-year term.
Is Tatar a good player, yup, would he add to a top 6, top 9, yup on 25+ teams including the Jets.
Do I want to understand why not one, but two, teams had him in the press box in the playoffs...without a doubt. There has to be something there. Montreal needed offensive creativity against TB, but he still didn’t play... why???
On a 1 year min deal, he’d be amazing. On a multi-year deal that costs the Jets Copp... hard no from my perspective.

Not sure about that. He’d improve the top 6 during the regular season... but by April, I’m think Prefetti will have a second year of post draft development under his belt and be ready to step into the top 9 on the Jets. This would put Tatar in the press box for the playoffs.
I just don’t see what he brings that Prefetti won’t by April.

I think that is the most likely outcome. Tried to see if signing Copp was realistic. Doesn’t appear to be.
As noted in the description, Matty and Lewis were placeholders. Not what I would do, though I think Lewis is an option the Jets will pursue.

Too many LHD trade one for Cernak
I can’t see either team making the trade. Cernak is on a very good contract and is better than Heinola right now, and RD.
Heinola has top 4, maybe #2/3 potential, but is still a ways from being better than Cernak. He’s also a LD, and TB is stacked on the left side for the next 2-4 years.
Is the trade fair... tough call... cernak is better now, Heinola could be better... but in 1-3 years. It’s not a bad trade, but I don’t think either side makes it.

I like the UFA additions, I think they all slot in nicely, although I expect Ceci to get more than $2M per. Donato would be a nice addition, and Rittich could be a decent 2G if he can bounce back a bit. If he signs for a million, it’s decent value.
I’m not sure Prefetti makes the opening night roster, but it would be a pleasant surprise if he puts on enough strength to compete and win at the NHL level this fall.

cant believe no Danault
Can’t see any scenario where VGK trade Shea, unless there is a true #1 Center going the other way. Kokt is still a 1C prospect, but has a fair bit of work before he gets there.
Let’s assume for the sake of entertainment that VGK was willing to part with Shea... I’m thinking that Kotk, Romanov and a 1st might get the discussion started. Suzuki is interesting, I wonder if VGK profile his ceiling as a top line C, or a strong 2C. Might be able to swap him for Kotk, and the pick might be a second.
Tough trade to make work though. VGK won’t want to trade him, Mont won’t want to give up the assets needed to acquire him.

Heres a crazy idea
Straight up, I think the Jets decline.
Both are solid D prospects, but almost complete opposites from a skill perspective.
Heinola is small, great skater, exceptionally smart defensively. His ceiling is top 4.
Schneider is big and strong, good skater (for his size), pretty heady, but doesn’t have the same passing or ability to read the play that Heinola shows. He’s got second pair upside, though likely as the mobile, defensively minded partner to somebody like Heinola.
It’s a reasonably fair trade, but I don’t think the upside for Schneider is as high, and floors are probably similar, good bottom pair. Heinola is also much closer to the NHL than Schneider at this point. I expect Heinola next season, Schneider is probably 22-23 or 23-24.
Interesting trade though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Bahahaha, they'd be absolute morons to decline, that's a huge win for the Jets and a terrible deal for the Ducks.</div></div>
I’m not sure it’s such a bad trade for either side. Ignore the Little part of the trade, no clue why that is in there. He’s not going anywhere.
Copp plus draft picks for Lindholm. If it’s 2013-2018 Lindholm, no way the Ducks do this. He’s a top 2/3 D with size and skill, and at that time... youth.
The last two years, he’s struggled a bit. The team has as well, so I think that has something to do with it, plus some injuries. Is his value depressed from where it was 2+ years ago, likely a bit.
Copp, solid middle 6 forward, plays C and wing, PK and can play on PP2.
Jets would be banking in a return to a top pair D (left shot), whereas Ducks would be getting a veteran middle six versatile F with leadership qualities.
Even though there is more risk around IF Lindholm will get back to top pair D, he’s still only 28 next season, and on a good contract. I think the Jets would need to add assets to get this deal done. Not sure if it’s a bottom six prospect or a pick, but I can’t see ANA doing this deal straight up.
That said, it’s not ridiculous, there is some merit given the Ducks youth movement and need for solid veterans to help out over the next 3-5 years. But I’m of the view that it’s Copp plus to get Lindholm.

I think this might be a great team in the suck for Shane (Wright) race. The D is deep! With AHL level talent.
Not sure Pionk or Copp will resign for those low numbers, and Holl isn’t going to help the Top 4 D enough. The Jets need a top pairing Dman, not a 4/5 15-18 min per night 3rd pair type.
Prefetti won’t be a 4th line C either, not in the NHL, AHL or Junior. He needs to play in the top 6 next year to develop his game.

Something
Some interesting transactions. I can’t see Stanley making more than $1.75M, and Pionk making less than $5.5M.
Stastny is also overpaid above $3.5M or so, and I have no clue what he brings at that cap hit to the 4th line.
Ceci had a nice year, I think as a #5 D he brings a lot, though at that price and term it might be an overpay for a 3rd pair RD. But I would like him, Pionk and Demelo on the right side, with a true veteran strong LD to play 2nd pair minutes
Killorn is interesting. He’s a solid middle six wing and would think about that trade if I’m the Jets.
I don’t think the Niku/Beaulieu trade works for EDM, they don’t need either of those assets. Jets would be better off keeping the pick and sending them to the Moose.
Finally, roster is 2 players short, so need to find $1.5M in cap space to get 23 players to cover injuries. I would mix Stastny, those $$$ would go to a $1.5M vet bottom 6 and to cover a solid 2nd pair LD.

I do like Edler and think he’s a solid Top 4 D. Contract is reasonable.
I don’t understand the Copp dump. Why not place Little on LTIR and resign him and try to sign Armia to replace Appleton on the bottom 6 (Armia is a great PK)
I also don’t think Prefetti makes the roster in October. He’s too far away right now from contributing on the top 6 in the NHL. Maybe, similar to Caufield, he’s ready in April, but I can’t see him developing enough over the summer to win that job.
