He'll essentially be an "own rental" instead of trading him. That, or they could extend him in January since the cap crunch isn't as bad in 22-23.

i don't think he wants to be in Wpg and definitely not sure he is a top 6 forward very smart player very defensive oriented but his hands

He said he wanted a 4-5 year deal in his media availability. Unless you think he is lying, it sounds like he wants to be in Winnipeg.

He signed a deal instead of forcing his way out, those are actions not words. But whatever, your "connections"....

Copp should've been traded for a dman instead of wasting picks on Schmidt and Dillon.

Winnipeg won't be trading Copp now after signing him to a team friendly deal. Worst case scenario he'll be an own rental.

Unless they agree to an extension in January or later. Like I said earlier, cap crunch isn't as bad in 22-23.

He'll be an "own rental" as the worst case scenario.

We agree to disagree. Cheveldayoff’s revealed preference is to maximize winning sooner rather than later, otherwise he wouldn’t have made all of the deals to put the team in a position to win now at the expense of asset development. If Copp ends up being an own rental, that was Chevy's choice.

while that might sound true i believe if the right offer comes up for Copp CHEVY will pull the trigger to upgrade this tean

It depends on how Copp performs this season. He had a 14pt increase in 8 less games last season. I think it's far too early to say he will or won't be back.

He has likely already explored that and the 1yr deal with the potential of an own rental scenario was the best.

He essentially said back in June I’d do a 4-5 year deal but because the moves in ED + trades they can’t afford me except to walk me straight to UFA. Look at Coleman/Hyman deals to see what he’s going to negotiate for next year. The only substantial cap coming off the books is Statsny but then you gotta back fill so re-signing probably isn’t in the books barring a disappointing season.

As it looks now Rasmussen is going to be a defensive forward something like Draper. I think Copp will produce quite a few more points in his career but Rasmussen is 5yrs younger. Detroit isn't going to give up much for Copp without a long term deal in place. Rentals just aren't that valuable to rebuilding teams.

Stastny and Beaulieu add up to $5M. I think ~900k of that goes to Copp to bring him to around $4.5M if he repeats his performance. Dubois would take an additional $1-2M if he does well to bring him to $6-7M. Vesalainen and Gustafsson don’t have arb rights so they will get a modest raise unless they have breakout seasons. Arbitration eligible Harkins and Comrie might get a small raise.

Statsny and Beaulieu do add up to 5M but you have to factor in replacements. You also have to bet that 4.9-5.5M is what he’s looking to bet off (at minimum the 4.9 Coleman just got).

You don't have to replace Beaulieu and Statsny can be filled with Perfetti (ELC) in 22-23
