Isles 24-25 season
The valuation here is very off if you're trying to get Pinto.
To being with, Pinto is VERY highly regarding by OTT. The cost to acquiring him would be incredibly high and would make you balk at the price. Remove Chychrun and they'd still say no level of valuation, so I'm sure there's not a deal there.
Furthermore, the pieces you've included aren't of interest to OTT. Pelech is a LHD and moving Chychrun would only be done to address the LHD/RHD imbalance OTT has. Offering a LHD in return for Chychrun makes no sense. Also, C is a position of strength for OTT (Stutzle, Giroux, Pinto, Greig, Kastelic, Ostapchuk all play C, and that excludes Norris) so giving up assets for an overpaid bottom-6 C doesn't make sense.
Ergo, the only thing of value to OTT is the trade is a 2025 1st. Not worth the major assets you've requested in exchange.

Sennies Retool Redditor Disapproved Edition
I'd love to see Ostapchuk play that 4C role over Kastelic tbh. Maybe we could buy out Korpi and use Kastelic to get bargaining rights to Desmith out of VAN? Sign him to run a tandem with Sogaard/Forsberg with the threat of AHL demotion for the latter two as incentive to pull it together. We can survive the one more year of Forsberg so I'd rather just keep him and the 4th and with our goalie injury history, the depth would be nice.
As an aside, if we waive Forsberg and someone claims him then problem solved anyway.

Agreed, hence the assumption that he won't come back. OTT lucked out a lot with how Pinto developed, but losing Norris is such a blow. Such a shame.

I have Chychrun traded to NYI for their 1st in 2024 and a retained Pageau. Someone who plays like Joseph in Pageau, plus the chance to draft a good middle-6 in Terik Parascak or Michael Brandsegg-Nygard or Ryder Ritchie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>He says no if you don’t extend him. There is no reason he goes to Ottawa without it.
Talbott was a negative GsaX / 60 goaltender in the two years before he went to Ottawa. Korpisalo was a horrendous goaltender from 20 to 22 with regards to GSax / 60 and had a hot stretch.</div></div>
Agreed on both counts re: Talbot and Korpi. No idea what PD was thinking in either case when he made moves for them, but that ship has long since sailed.
If it is a requirement for Ullmark to waive his NTC, assuming OTT is on it (which it will be), I'm not sure if I'd make the move. If he'd take a two-year deal at a similar cap hit to what he has now, I'd give it some serious thought, but it does complicate things.

Norris out 2024 25 assumption post
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>What's the injury to Norris' shoulder? Is he dislocating it constantly?</div></div>
I'm not a doctor so I can't do much more than regurgitate other news outlets, but from what I've read he requires a 3rd surgery on it. The timeline for return is 4-6 months, meaning he could be back in time for training camp, but at this point the question arises about the viability of his shoulder in the long and short-term. Last year he had a similar prognosis and still missed training camp, so if we assume a similar timeline he is likely out for next season as well, but maybe back for the playoffs Mark Stone style.

I'd be hesitant to give Ullmark an extension before seeing how he fares in OTT, considering how sharply Talbot and Korpi dropped once coming here. I can't envision Pinto or Chychrun being used for a goalie; goalies typically don't carry that much value. A late 1st is typically the high end mark for a good goaltender if we look at past trade comps.

Can Sens make the playoffs
This season isn't even over yet, can we please hit pause on talking playoffs until AT LEAST November 2024? My therapist might have helped me recover from this abysmal season by then.
You can't run it back with Korpi and Forsberg and then realistically ask if we can make the playoffs. Furthermore, the only changes in this post from the squad used this year is Phil Kessel, Zack Ostapchuk, and Erik Karlsson. Those aren't the difference makers, regardless of how good Ostapchuk looked against PIT the other day.
Also, as was said PIT isn't retaining so much dead cap for a potential rental; especially as the cap is FINALLY about the rise again. They're an attractive UFA market and won't want to tie up so much cap for so long, nor burn a retention slot for 3 years. That's on top of the real world cost, which <a href="/users/jfkst1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@jfkst1</a> is 100% right about.

If we assume OTT drafts around 5th OVR, Matinpalo could be replaced by Parekh and Hamonic replaced by JBD. Makes it WAY better.
Chychrun - Zub
Sanderson - Parekh
Branny - JBD
Just saw they gave Pinto an 8x8... Is that really where his contract is pointed? Would expect more of an 8x$6 at most.

I mean, if we value Laughton as a 2nd rounder at minimum I'd say that's a fair deal. The 1st is weaker than the one OTT gave up to acquire him, but Chychrun hasn't exactly played well in OTT and is looking at a big contract bump.

It seems like Tre is content with his skilled core and wants big guys to make it harder to play in the Leafs' end. Don't hate the strategy; let's just hope it pans out. Curious that they're not addressing defending a top line, but I suppose all it takes is one solid hit (assuming they can actually catch someone).

I might be in the minority here, but if I'm OTT I would take this deal.
Lundkvist is a RHD who can play on the right side.
Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Lundkvist
Kleven/Branny - JBD
I don't hate it. Adding in Faksa gives us an overpaid 4C, but honestly I'd take it for the responsibility and veteran presence that can move into a 3C role
Grieg - Faksa - Joseph
OR
Kelly - Faksa - Kastelic
Don't hate that either.
I'd be willing to drop the 3rd to have some retention on Faksa as well, or send a 5th somewhere for that.

I can't see TBL paying that much for Chychrun, even at 50%. They'll get Sergey back next year too so they likely won't need/want Chych. Would likely have to lose the 2nd at minimum, but likely Howard or the 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mediumyeet</b></div><div>No disrespect but that is not accurate on Truscott.
Aman just turned 24 a couple weeks ago and is signed to 2 more years at 825k. He is a reliable 4C that has been one of our better penalty killers. He's been in the NHL all year but has been healthy scratched a couple of times. For the most part he's been a regular though. Nothing special but responsible youngish C with some size and decent skating ability.
Truscott is a LHD that plays in Michigan. He's likely nothing special. Turns 22 in April and is 6'1 and just an all around reliable dman. He is the captain at Michigan and prior to this year was paired with Luke Hughes there and Owen Power the year before. His player type is kind of like a Tanev but highly highly unlikely it is at that level ever. Probably a depth or AHL dman.
I would be fine with a mid round pick instead of these guys but figure they might actually be a bit more interesting for Minny that a 4th rounder.</div></div>
Man, I have heard the exact opposite on Truscott! I even looked him up on the CapFriendly scouting reports (https://www.capfriendly.com/scouting-reports/players/jacob-truscott) and they also say he's needing to improve hid defensive responsibility to translate to the NHL.
BUT, I haven't watched him play; I'm basing what I know of the prospect on various podcasts / talking heads regarding VAN and various scouting reports. Based on what you think, I'd be more inclined to keep him and send a mid pick.

Aman is a reliable depth-C who can be trusted, but does bounce back and forth with the AHL. Truscott is more of a meh 5th round prospect from what I've heard. He does have some offensive upside as a D prospect, but the two-way responsibility lacks.

VAN doesn't need Guentzel; that would just be big name hunting rather than building what the team needs. Lindholm could play the top-6 RW role, or Lettermaki since he would be wasted on a 4th line. Use the money saved on Guentzel to bring back Blueger for the 3C and upgrade that 3rd pairing and get depth... Juulsen and Wolanin would not work.

Parekh seems to be projected as more of a two-way / offensive minded D prospect. Is that what OTT would be after? Seems like we have enough of those already. Or do you think he could pair well with Sanderson and Chabot with Zub?

You're right. Stutzle, Pinto, Grieg, Kastelic, Ostapchuk, and then the 13 games a year of Norris (plus Kelly and Giroux can play C). Pageau would be great to have back, but not for anywhere near $5mil/yr nor at the cost of a retained Tarasenko.
