VAN doesn't need Guentzel; that would just be big name hunting rather than building what the team needs. Lindholm could play the top-6 RW role, or Lettermaki since he would be wasted on a 4th line. Use the money saved on Guentzel to bring back Blueger for the 3C and upgrade that 3rd pairing and get depth... Juulsen and Wolanin would not work.

Yeah, picking based on need doesn't always work (MTL and KK comes to mind), so that makes sense

Post deadline tanking lineup for Zayne Parekh
Parekh seems to be projected as more of a two-way / offensive minded D prospect. Is that what OTT would be after? Seems like we have enough of those already. Or do you think he could pair well with Sanderson and Chabot with Zub?

You're right. Stutzle, Pinto, Grieg, Kastelic, Ostapchuk, and then the 13 games a year of Norris (plus Kelly and Giroux can play C). Pageau would be great to have back, but not for anywhere near $5mil/yr nor at the cost of a retained Tarasenko.

MTL HABS 2024 trade for Tkachuk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jackaille</b></div><div>Ghule plays as well on the right side, but ya. Ideally they would move Chychrun to Detroit for a RD like Edvinsson and put Ghule on the right with Sanderson
Sanderson/Edvinsson
Chabot/Ghule
Zub/Bernard</div></div>
Chychrun and Brannstrom also play on the right at times, but they need a bona-fide RHD to place with their two-way transitional LHD. OTT needs to focus on the real need rather than a 'could fit' mentality, y'know? A reason why they're struggling again this year.
Of course, if they move Chychrun this could change the conversation, but Sanderson and Chabot have the left locked down.
I also don't watch much MTL games, but that's just my general thoughts on the pieces in the trade.

MTL HABS 2024 trade for Tkachuk
OTT would decline. Guhle is a stud, but our LD is stacked with studs in Sanderson, Chabot, and Chychrun (not to mention Brannstrom, Kleven). It would be akin to making an offer for Caulfield or Suzuki with a goalie being the main piece. Just doesn't fit a need for MTL, which inherently tanks the perceived value of the trade.

Roy: People on this site seem to be convinced he won't sign with a Canadian team and is leaning towards DET, if they have a RD spot for him (which it doesn't seem like they will, but doesn't fix the Canada problem)
Pulock: I like that one
Weegar: Like his OTT ties, don't like the contract term nor the apparent cost to get him from CGY
Cernak: Too good for TBL to move him while they're still going for it. Plus, his contract is wonderful and would be hard to trade for
Carlo: Can't see BOS being too willing to move him. Carlo for Norris as basis could work though, so I would also be alright with that.
Can't see OTT being the only team in this hunt though. I'd hate to see more moves a la Debrincat and Chychrun trades so it would be hard to get someone.

That comment about JBD for a 3rd gave me DeMelo PTSD flashbacks. I hope they keep him; no point not letting these young guys develop if the only return is another random swing that they won't let develop.

I'd still consider a Batherson for Defensive RD swap, but with a tad bit more reservation that I initially would have. Hadn't considered that.

What about the lines as:
Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
Jarventie/Crookshank - Grieg - Norris
Joseph - Pinto - ????
Kelly - Kastelic (if he rebounds to 2022-23 form) - ???
Chabot/Chychrun - Defensive D
Sanderson - Zub
Brannstrom - ???
Move Norris off the middle in the hopes he can be a bit more creative offensively and generate something? Or, honestly, trade him with retention for that Defensive D rather than Batherson.

I think OTT could be a fringe playoff team next year, but it would have to be a very lucky year for them.

Chychrun/Chabot, BOS 2024 1st, 50% Tarasenko, prospect (Ostapchuk and/or Kleven)?

Re-Signing
I think some cap hits are little on the law side (Hronek, Lindholm, Zadorov) based on what they're allegedly looking for. I don't love the idea of resigning Zadorov anyway; he likely won't be worth whatever he tries to get. I also think we should prioritize Blueger over him since there are cheaper 3LD available than him (Brannstrom from OTT, for example, should be cheaper, younger, and can also play as 2LD if needed). Or we could trade Mikheyev for picks and use that to boost other caps and give Lettermaki a top-6 slot.
