No more wingers until they figure out who is going to fill the 1C / 2C role (effectively) long-term.
If no Bedard or Fantilli, they probably go with Leo Carlsson, his size and compete level are what the Jackets really are looking for.

Jarmo is very resolute in his negotiations.
This is a very decent package for Nyquist, but I think Jarmo will hold out for a much higher pick like a 1st or 2nd and depth player than 2 lower picks and 2 role players

offseason
Definitely be a huge step in the right direction as far as a rebuild goes (or as everyone likes to say..."reload" not rebuild).
Especially if that top pick is Bedard. But Fantilli or Carlsson would be very nice consolation prizes and most likely all 3 are NHL ready.
Bedard 1C and Larkin 2C would be ideal.
I would hope Sillinger gets past his sophmore slump.
And I really wonder whether Texier will come back from Europe in 2023-24.
Kuraly would be best at 4C and Jenner move to LW and Robinson/Danforth fill in as needed.
Foudy IMO has been leaped by too many people depth and talent wise to stick around much longer. He really doesn't contribute much, even by 4th line standards.
Jenner, Kuraly & Robinson/Danforth/Olivier would be a much heavier and energetic line.

The only deal that looks accurate based on market value is the Kerfoot deal. He is worth about a 4th. Maybe a 3rd. He averages 42 points/year over his career (based on 82 game season).

adding picks
I have pondered the players that might/should be moving at the TDL for the Jackets.
It seems that Korpisalo is the only stabilizing factor right now in the net for the Jackets.
Elvis really is just a shell of his former self prior to Kivleniek's accidental death.
I think long term Jackets will look to either buy Elvis out or trade him for a fresh start somewhere else if he cannot get his game back to form in the next year or so.
They just might want to keep Korpi and fill in from there with Tarasov or another depth G.

Detroit is a better team than CBJ right now. Larkin will sign there for $10M with Detroit rather a lesser contract with CBJ.
Also, the lineup above would look a lot better if you inserted the projected top 3 OA center pick the Jackets will be selecting: Bedard, Fantilli or Leo Carlsson
(they all are/will be considered NHL-ready by 10/2023)...

UFA ROUTE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Mind</b></div><div>You must have already forgotten that Johnny Gaudreau took less to come to Columbus.
Agreed. I wouldn't mind Larkin if it's a reasonable price, and I like Horvat, but he is the same player as Jenner, who we have on a team friendly deal. I'm not sure he makes sense for us.
Laine is great to have when he's actually playing, but man that guy misses a lot of time. Hopefully he's just taking it easy since the team is bad, and he can put a couple full seasons together moving forward.
Boqvist is flashy but unreliable. Slight, oft injured, and doesn't play physical or aggressive defense. Jackets are probably going to have to sell low on him in the summer unless he has a resurgence in the second half of the season.</div></div>
Bjork & Blankenburg have definitely climbed above Boqvist on the depth chart. Also, having Peeke & Guds makes Boqvist almost expendable (if they can stay healthy).

I don't disagree. And Gaudreau turned down even better money to sign in Columbus, closer to his home on the East Coast.
Philly or NJ certainly would have been his 1st choice had they had the cap space.
This is just a hypothetical to see if it was remotely possible to squeeze them in.
I'm sure they (Horvat & Larkin) are both happy in the cities they are currently playing in.
Even luring 1 top name center UFA would help the Jackets, especially given the fact they will unfortunately be drafting very high again this year.

CBJ Minimum Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Mind</b></div><div>Kent Johnson may be closer to taking that 1C role than you think. And as you mentioned, they could get that guy in this summer's draft as well. Even at #5, I think that player should be just as impactful if not more than KJ in year their draft +2 year.
I still believe in Elvis. His ability hasn't gone anywhere, he's just trying too hard. He'll work his way out of this funk and get back to being a solid #1. Hopefully it takes him all year to do that though, because we sure could use one of those top two guys in the draft.</div></div>
I will say this, whoever they use in G...it would take the pressure off and be much easier for CBJ with more goal scoring (especially at critical times).
Also, they always seem to give up quick goals in succession or a quick goal right after CBJ scores. This is so frustrating. Lack of concentration or competitiveness IMO.

CBJ Minimum Roster
Personally, I think the Jackets cannot wait for development of Johnson or Sillinger to take over 1C/2C duties.
The problems they are having at scoring/defense are resulting from the middle of the ice, starting at C, as well as D and G position.
Jenner is not getting any younger, Sillinger is in a sophmore slump, and Roslovic is very hit or miss (mostly miss).
It would be a bonus to have Voracek back next year for his puck control and passing skills from the RW position, but that is a big uncertainty.
Foudy and Bemstrom need a scenery change, they just are not going to get any better or advance in Columbus.
With the injuries and upcoming grind of heavy schedule the rest of the way (49 games in 106 days) ...they will finish bottom 5 in the league.
Next year's draft will be deep enough to get an impact player even at #5, so I would expect them to take the best Center with their 1st round pick.
They may need to sign/trade for an experienced two-way center to help with the depth.
Bjork is a pleasant surprise, and it will be interesting to see how the defense develops over the next couple of years.
Don't count out Blankenburg, even undersized, he has a unique vision of the ice and high compete level, so he may stay in the mix for awhile.
Finally, in Goal I just don't think Elvis is the answer long term, they just may have to move on.
He may have been at one time, but the Kivlenieks accident really did mess him up a bit.
He just cannot seem to stand tall when needed in net during those rare close games to give the Jackets a chance.

Robinson is staying put.
Robinson was a big reason why Gaudreau signed with CBJ. They were childhood friends growing up.
That and CBJ had the cash to spend.
And Columbus is close to Philly/South Jersey

A deadly combo - Panarin & Kane on the same line.
That was the start of the Blackhawk's downfall in 2017 - they could have had that combination had they not traded Panarin to the Jackets for, get this...
Panarin, Tyler Motte & a 6th in return for Brandon Saad, Anton Forsberg, and a 5th.

No Tex
I think this will be the line-up (players), but positionally, I would like to see Laine back on his natural LW (2nd line), and Marchenko on the RW across from Gaudreau.
Laine & Voracek should be back together on a line.
Sillinger & Roslovic are interchangeable at 2C/3C based on chemistry.
Bemstrom may replace the chemistry that Tex had on line #4 with Robinson & Kuraly. Otherwise, Oliver plays a heavy checking game, and either Gaunce or Danforth did well on 4th line duty in Tex's absence.

Tex is better than Kerfoot. So just keep tex.
Our centers will continue to develop, probably more quickly now that we have another playmaking winger (like Panarin) in gaudreau. He will have very good assist numbers just like Voracek did. That is why I like having Gaudreau and Voracek on different lines. Keep Laine with Voracek and place either Kent Johnson or Tex on the other wing with Gaudreau.

Both key players are on final year contracts and the 1st is 3 years from now.
Calgary is imploding almost as fast as Chicago.
It’s sad. One bad move or event begets future bad moves (desperation).
I’m so glad Jarmo didn’t get crazy desperate back when Bob/Panarin/Duchene/Dzingle all walked.

Jarmo & staff hit on more 3rd/4ths than most hit on 1sts/2nds.
I would have preferred Nyquist myself since he only has 1 year left. But that is why Jarmo chose Bjorkstrand, for the same reason…the same value he unloaded this year with Olli to make cap, he will also lose that value next year when Nyquist contract expires, so he can sign Gavi & Peeke in 2023. I like Bjorkstrand a lot, but agree Gaudreau is a huge upgrade.
And you can’t keep all the toys all the time.
