Off-season GM scenario - Necas
This is something Carolina probably don't even listen to. IF (and it is an if) Necas goes anywhere, it's going to be for an offensive upgrade. Columbus don't have that. Otherwise, it's going to be EXTREMELY expensive. I'm talking more along the lines of Johnson, Sillinger and Chinakov instead of Chinakov, Ceulemans, and a cap dump. You have to understand, the picks don't interest Carolina. This is a team that knows it's not far away from a cup. You're buying from a contender, so the major attraction will be pieces that help the roster win now

Canes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>Orlov is literally on your 3rd paring right now playing only 16 minutes a night. He gets almost twice as many offensive zone starts compared to D zone starts. He is sheltered by two other D pairs and zone starts. Pettersson meanwhile actually plays top pair, over 22 minutes a night, twice as many Dzone starts as Ozone starts, heavily relied on PK'er and good producer of offense at 5v5. I wouldn't trade him 1 for 1.</div></div>
Orlov's on the third pairing because Skjei and Slavin are also top pairing caliber D men, it's not an indication of his play. Orlov gets a lot of O zone starts, but every Canes D pairing does because they Canes dominant O zone pressure. If you're trying to argue that TOI is the deciding factor, you're beyond help.

Texier isn't away from North America because of the team he's on. He's not in North America because he went through tremendous loss of family and can't bring himself to be away from the people he has left. We really don't know all the details yet or even if he'll ever return to the NHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canesfan21_</b></div><div>I find it funny people think you magically gain cap space from trading for LTIR contracts</div></div>
I will agree most (myself included) don't always understand it. But VGS is going to be just fine. They will need to make sure they are as close to the cap limit as possible to take advantage of this.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">With both Lehner and Weber LTIR eligible and out for the entire season, the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/VegasBorn?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">#VegasBorn</a> can exceed the upper limit by up to $12,857,143. In other words their new upper limit can be $95.36M (instead of $82.5)This will give them plenty of roster flexibility throughout the season</p>— CapFriendly (<a href="/users/CapFriendly" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@CapFriendly</a>) <a href="https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/1557777949402681344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">August 11, 2022</a></blockquote>

Carolinas regret
Absolutely no regret. Hamilton is the best player in that trade. Lindholm has become a great player, but I'd still take a D man that gets Norris votes over a forward that needed elite wingers to hit the 40 goal mark. Hanifin would be the 3LD anyway (Hanifin - Pesce didn't work before, Skjei - Pesce is one of the best pairings in hockey, and he is not better than Slavin). I'd do this deal again for how good Hamilton was. Wish he stayed, but was worth the deal.
