Here is a fun brain exercise. Say JT Miller was a UFA today. Yeah he has his defensive short comings, but he has been a point per game player for the past 3.5 years. As seen before in UFA, players get overpaid. 7 years is pretty long and those contracts never end well, however they are handed out quite often (Kadri, Trochek, Huberdeau, Hertl, Couturier, all of whom are 28 and older)

Very good chance that Miller would have gotten 7 years by a team. As for his AAV, 8 mil for a point per game player is kind of expected.

Overall, JT Miller is way too overhated. Yes he sucks defensively, however it is not like he was ever good defensively in the first place. Way more people are critiquing him this season than the previous 3, and the only reason is because of the contract. Contract is bad for Vancouver as it does not align with the Canucks competitive timeline, however people are hating on Miller way more than needed. I have criticized him a lot as well, however people saying that it would take multiple first round picks to dump Miller is just insane. Is Huberdeau a cap dump 30 games into the season where he is producing way less than he was last season?

He also has his offensive shortcomings at even strength. I think he would get 6.5 x 7, but with no singing bonuses.

Huberdeau is definitely a cap dump at this point. Still a top line winger, but he's a 7.5- 8 mill dollar player being paid 10.5 for the next 8 years

Seattle needs a goalie so bad, man. Impressive that they've done as well as they have so far with what they've been getting in net.

Is he doing poor offensively at 5v5 this season? For sure, but lets not pretend that he didn't just put up 60 even strength points last season.

JT Miller has 0.61PPG at even strength in his time in Vancouver. That translates to about 51 even strength points a season. Now add on to the fact that he is also a power play merchant, his point production is never really a concern. Obviously things aren't looking well this season, however it is hard for me to accept that his poor 30ish games this season completely erases all he has done for Vancouver in the past 3+ years he has been here. People really forgetting that he was our best player since he got to Vancouver.

Edit: I have to say that JT Miller is probably the most overhated player on Capfriendly. Ever since he signed that contract, every single person has been picking apart every little thing he does, and says. People really overreacting to Miller yelling at Delia. Yeah he probably shouldn't have done it, however I don't remember every single person losing their sh*t when Nathan MacKinnon literally went into rage mode on his own coach on the bench. That was considered "passionate" and that moment is now nothing more than comedic memory of him falling off the bench.

If things don't turn around quick, I see absolutely 0 reason why McDavid and Draisaitl would want to stay

Be honest would the Oilers have got out of round 1 if they went up against Tampa. Based on their defense let's be honest probs would have looked like the Avs series. Meanwhile if Leafs were against LA would have been done and then it would have been a fun series Tor vs Calgary but divisions are what they are for a reason. We just got the tougher path to go through but it will make for a more convincing run which is fine
