Monahan much value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nyr_buck</b></div><div>is this satire?</div></div>
I swear people in the community are convinced to the core that Monahan is a better hockey player than Lindholm.
I'll say I think there'll be more suitors for him because of the low cap hit therefore more teams can trade for him but as far as hockey goes the points comparison doesn't make sense between these two.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>With a pretty meh .901 SV%, is Allen really an improvement over Rittich 0.924 SV% and Talbot 0.911 SV%?
I don't see it making sense from a cap perspective as well as not being a good fit.</div></div>
I mean he ain't playing behind the same defense either... As of right now LA defense's miles ahead of Montreal's so the comparison is skewed.

Ideal Trade Deadline
OP:
I had a similar trade proposal a few days ago with McConnell-Barker instead of Sykora and was told I was dreaming, Gorton/NYR feud aside it seems like a good match. My thinking is that once Elias is off the table there's likely going to be a race to the next best center available considering we're in a seller market year. A future protected 1st (Likely health and/or position protected) and a prospect should close the deal. I'd give the option of sending either one of these three; McConnell-Barker, Sykora and Berard.
As a MTL fan I'd love if they could put their egos aside and make hockey trades but we'll see.

Volatile market..... I'm rarely mean to people here but turn off the playstation, we're not getting a Calder nominee and a conditional 1st for an unretained Monny. Just delete this.

Dollars in Dollars out
I like the Matheson trade a lot but it'd have to be made at next year's TDL or even in the summer considering our tight management of retention slots. If we're using another multi year retention it means we have only 1 left next TDL with guys like Savard, Dvorak, Allen and Armia on expiring deals which is not great.

Monahan 2024 tdl madness
Sorry to other fanbases, some fans of ours are thinking Monahan is an equivalent or even better player than Lindholm and are starting to think we can get something comparable or better. Some names like Lafreniere, Poitras and even Gabe Perrault are being thrown around....
Apologies until the Monahan trade happens.
To OP: Poitras is likely going to receive Calder votes, you're not getting this PLUS stuff for a middle 6 center rental.

Wild hot take
Some might trip but in a vacuum I guess that's good. You're trading a promising young scorer with a long term deal for a better player that's about to get a pay raise and likely gives you 2 more great year before a steady decline. The trade would make sense the other way around, if a team contending like Florida would trade Caufield out to compete now with a 40 goal a year guy.

This would be real nice
Don't think it's reality to think Zegras gets traded for a pick with protection that could be 3 drafts away... A 22 years old, 20 goals, 60+ points guy under your control for at least 4 years will warrant more going their way.

I love how people downgrades the 1st after a trade (Most comments saying "It's only a late 1st who cares") but when you put a 1st rounder in an ACGM everyone's going wild.

As much as Kuz didn't seem to be part of Tochett's game, can't deny that they're trading a young player a year away from a 40 goals season. Along with a 1st and I'd say a B+ prospect, it's hefty.

Trading for Allen would be a good opportunity for Philly. While no giving away a tremendous amount of future for stability today, the extra year gives them stability in case the Fedotov saga keeps lingering and saves them from overspending in a weak free agency if they look for help elsewhere. Petersen with his sub .900 s% in the AHL is far from being a mid-long term solution for a playoff bound team, same can be said about Sandy. His stats are on a decline across the board as a 27yo free agent... trading for any stability would be a win (Allen or not) for this team.

We could compare Monahan's trade value to one's of Copp and Stastny. Different skillset I agree but I feel like a lot of fans forget one thing about those comparison, salary. Why would Monahan fetch anything close to what the others brought? Cause he's paid about 29% of what Stastny was at the time of trade and 60% of Copp. He obviously isn't a comparable when it comes to health but who cares if you're taking him for -at most- 30 games? Health clauses have already been seen (Upgrades to X is player Y plays 50% of playoff games) so I don't really see where a GM would be unwilling to part ways with a good prospect and a highly conditioned pick.
Pretty sure he fetches at least a conditional 1st based upon other previous deals.

Pretty sure Montreal is looking for picks to keep acquiring young players they have on their shortlist (The newest rumored being Berggren).

What would they cost
At this point of the season with Monty signed and Primeau showing good stuff I think that taking on Allen's whole salary would be a positive. I'd accept something like Allen for Martinook with a mid round pick or something like this, a one year contract coming back to even up the cap a little bit and free you up a contract slot.

Don't worry about him, he's just an old man yelling at the sky.
I think it's realistic to get an Andrew Copp return for Monny, a pair of 2nd with conditional 1st would be fair. Maybe a tad more because he's making 2 instead of 3.5 but the players are comparable.

OP: Joseph is basically an overpaid Pezzetta, physical but not really a fighter which I don't think fits the team considering (a) the contracts backloaded money wise (b) it's not like he was a project or coming out of a drop off in production as he's never been producing in his career. Don't think anyone will bite on him, just trade away Bran and sail away.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GuyGuyGuy</b></div><div>Habs decline. Not a single rebuilding team is gonna help the sens sign Pinto</div></div>
Someone will, GMs aren't as salty as their fanbases. They don't care if they help or not the other team as long as they help theirs.
