Dont you think Petan and a 2nd would land you Staal, I feel like Staal with like half retention = a 1st therefore Jets can add more on deadline day.

Nylander is flying out there and the fact he has added a decent cycle game should absolutely blow people away. He was never supposed to be a guy who digs in the corners and get the puck. He was supposed to a guy who flies around and stays away from players creating space. He is a legit top line winger and he's getting better each game. His legs are back, and all he needed was his confidence and that is also returning.</div></div>
This is not a rookie anymore. He is technically in his fourth year as pro. There is no excuse for this and paying a guy 7mill to find himself is ridiculous. If this is what we had to expect we should have signed him for a 1-2 year deal at 5mill. At least that would have been easier to stomach and then we could have got him for what he is worth. Nylander is not work his contract right now. And after signing Mathews at 11.6 and Marner going to come in over 10 now, how can we afford an under preforming winger at 7mill. Hes the JVR of Toronto right now. Yes, the hope is over the next 5 years he will not only earn is contract but exceed it, but we need to hurry with that process. If the Leafs dominate a struggling team with goals, he should have been the one with 4 points, not Johnnson.

People just look at his numbers and say he's over payed, that's all just fairweather thinking. He's great.</div></div>
I dont follow stats, I follow games. And if you are being paid Boston's top line money, or being paid like you are a top winger in the league you better perform like it. Hard work is great, but Hyman works hard, Brown works hard, the Goat works hard. They don't put up north of 60 points a year like Nylander is supposed too. Nylander has been sub par in almost every single way. I am done making excuses for a guy almost making 7mill a year. The excuses ended after he played over 10 games. Its starting to get silly now. You are a professional athlete, you are a pro in the best league on the planet. You hold out like a selfish child for a 1/4 of the season and play sub par since coming back. Theres no excuse for that. I'll take Kappi and Johnnson over him any day right now. They have the drive, heart and POINTS.

You are demanding a player score at a point a game while playing on the 3rd line and 2nd PP unit. Nylander is far better than Kapanen. Look at how his line is playing right now, Nylander is making Kadri and Brown look scary and surprisingly is on the cycle where they are doing their best work. Who would have thought Nylander would develop a cycle game.</div></div>
And that is fine, but come on man. Look at some of the better producers in the league, they find a way. Someone with Nylanders skill should be finding a way. He did it last year when he was moved to the fourth line with Martin. He is playing with one of the best 3c in the league, and Brown is no slouch either.

I don't think it's really a matter of what he does or does not do this season. The Leafs play in a salary capped league and he's just too expensive for what you are getting out of him. At a point per game for the rest of the season, he is only upping his value, which is good news for the Leafs. However, as hard as he only sometimes tries, he does not hustle as much as he should be, doesn't really play defense either. In Kapanen you will have a far less expensive player, faster than Nylander and plays a far better defensive game.</div></div>
Thats is pretty much the same conversation we had. Kappi was dynamite against Pit, and Nylander, I thought he was scratched, didn't even notice him.

I am going to regret engaging with you because I can tell you have your pissy pants on this morning but the value between a 3rd and a 4th is almost the same as a late first or early second. The percentage difference between the two is marginal. A good organization like Tampa could easily find a diamond in the rough for that.

Brown is one of our main penalty killers and is very trusted by Babs. He plays a great cycle game and can score when given the chance. Giving up a budding prospect like Bracco and Johnnson is horrible asset management. Especially when you are planning to do a deep playoff run. Depth is key in the playoffs and keep Johnnson and Brown is very important to that. Move Rosen, Bracco, Zaitsev and two other picks if you have too. Dont take away from your roster before a supposed deep run.

Maroon took less money so he could live closer to his son. I don't know if I would split him up from his family. It may effect him negatively. I would prefer to go after Ferlund or maybe even Eric Staal.

TDL 18 - One trade solves it all
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>They don't.
They beat us in 7 games several years ago, yes that was an epic let down and a total late game collapse (I blame Carlyle for that, who thinks its a smart idea to play Phaneuf for over half a 3rd period). They lost last year in 7 games to a superior team. Boston was the 4th best team in the NHL last year, TO was 7th. They were the under dogs and there is no shame in losing to Boston last year.
This regular season has been a bit of a let down against Boston.
Game 1 the Leafs dominated the 1st period and Halak stole the game.
Game 2 the Leafs won handily
Game 3 they totally mailed it in the whole game and lost big.
Game 4 could have gone either way, two very good teams playing great hockey. It was a really good game to watch. A bounce one way or another and the game is a 4-2 win for TO.
So no Boston doesn't own us. Personally, I think they are the perfect opponent for the Leafs in the first round. Get the skeletons out of the closet immediately, and that emotional baggage being expelled could lead to a big run.</div></div>
They own us, because we haven't beat them. Plain and simple.

TDL 18 - One trade solves it all
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I completely disagree, Nylander actually looked not too bad in the playoffs last year. He did finish with a goal and 3 assists, he also was much better once he was moved away from Matthews. Him being snake bitten has far more to do with him missing training camp and a third of the season and then trying to keep up to guy sin mid season form. Pesce would play on the top pair with Rielly and he would be a huge upgrade over Hainsey but he's not a saviour and he doesn't win you a cup. He just makes it easier for Rielly to do what he does and you see less "God dammit Hainsey, just retire!" moments.
Ferland is less valuable than Hyman but has better hands. He doesn't win you a cup either. All this is just people buying into old school hockey thinking, media speculation and the mob mentality. Everyone is saying the leafs need tough guys to deal with Boston. That is wrong, they need to rise above the physical play. They have more talent than Boston and they need to be determined enough to take the hit, out skate the next hit and tire out Boston. That is step 1, play a full 60 minutes regularly with 100% effort. Do that and then you'll know exactly how good the team is. Overpaying to fix issues that we don't really know if its a huge problem or not is poor asset management.</div></div>
But if that were all true, than why does Boston own us.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>First of all, why? Nylander is a top line player. I know he's had his struggles so far this season but give him time, he's a deadly player. He could very possibly become the best player on Carolina, he was right there with Aho, Marner etc before he held out. Everyone has forgotten that, or they ignore it to justify terrible trades.
Pesce is the most overrated player in the league right now. He's a 20 point defensive defenceman, which is a great thing but its not worth a top line offensive forward. Even if you want to use the arguement that Nylander is 5th or 6th on TO's depth chart, that doesn't lower his value, it just shows how sick the Leafs offensive depth is.
Ferland is a fine player but he's a product of who he plays with, on his own he's a bottom 6 player who is physical and can chip in with some offense from time to time.
I think Ferland would be a good pick up but I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd for him. He's a rental, apparently he wants a Tom Wilson contract. No thanks.</div></div>
The idea of this trade is a playoff push and nothing else. I remember who Nylander is better than most. But no Nylander in the history of his playing has been snake bit this bad. At some point you need to focus on next year and the year after that. Will Nylander help the leafs win a cup? I dont know. I remember him being almost not noticeable the last two series against Boston. What would not go unnoticed would be a shutdown guy to play with Gardiner and a tough guy that can give Toronto space and an edge in a series against Boston. It is also REALLY hard to ignore that Sparks and Hutchinson just arent good enough.

Scheif is on a hero contract and an absolute beast and Trouba/Gardiner are both on expring deals.
Mathews > Scheif
Trouba > Gardiner
