No RD is gonna sign with us since they know they'll be traded to make room for Nemec. Let Walsh or Smith have 3RD if you don't think Nemec is ready.</div></div>
Well I think Soucy is playing the left side currently, so Bahl would be the odd man out/healthy scratch at that point with Smith gone after next year. And I’d rather have NJ capitalize on any trade value Walsh has.
2024 would be
Siegs - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Soucy - Nemec
Bahl
Yegor is worth more than scraps, sure, but he’s really only relevant when playing with Hughes. I’m sure he could fetch a conditional 3rd or 4th and a prospect if teams don’t focus on how streaky he is.

Like I said, all the NJD guys are really interchangeable in these trade ideas.
If BMW plays like last night or at the beginning of the season, you’re correct. If they play like the last 15 or so games, not great.

Fill out the bottom 6 and lets rock n roll
As a Devils fan, can we stop with this Henrique BS? He’s 33 making almost $6m until he’s 35 and will be nothing more than a 3C for NJ. He’s scored 50 points twice in his career 8+ years ago. Sure, he’s on pace for a good year now, but that just makes his trade value go up. He isn’t worth what it would cost to get him. Those pieces would be better spent elsewhere.
Nostalgia isn’t a good reason to get him. That’s a Lou Lamoriello move, and we’re past that.

I figured 50% retention would drive up the price which equates to two pieces plus a 1st, and Sharangovich nets the 4th and Cardwell

Apparently our other D men have been asked about. Not by name specifically but that is: Bahl, Okhotiuk, Walsh, Casey (I think).</div></div>
I was thinking about Jeannot or Trenin from NSH. I think Trenin is just a discount Jeannot (whose value is at its highest right now, and he’ll need a new contract next year).

Yeah I figured. I’m super low on Smith (with Luke taking his spot in after next year), and I’ve hated Zacha since they drafted him. I’d rather have two dart throws with upside who got drafted somewhat early than Zacha. Tatar, Kuokkanen, and Johnsson are all interchangeable and expendable.

Subban is hot garbage no matter where he plays in the lineup or who the coach is. He excels only when playing with a top 2 shutdown D man. PK got his contract, his Norris trophy, and his notoriety by playing Markov in MTL in a lockout shortened season. He’s never been good at actual defense.

Pass on Kane. The young guys don’t need his off ice issues as a distraction. Plus it’s been reported there’s been more disconnect between him and his teammates, and his value is dropping around the league. On ice production is one thing in the right scheme, but the pieces NJD would be giving up for him are better spent elsewhere.

Free Agency Targets
I just made one of these adding Oleksiak and Halak, so those two I think are good low risk moves because you know what you’re getting with them.
Ovi wouldn’t sign in NJ, and I think Hamilton would cost around 10-11m to leave a contender for a rebuilder. IMO he’s a top 5 defenseman in the league. Coleman would be okay, but I think he wants to play in Dallas.

No Hamilton or Jones
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tgasp67</b></div><div>I think NJ needs to find a top 4 defenseman that is responsible defensively if they are going to take a step. I would do that Reinhart trade but I don't know if Buffalo would, it depends on how highly they view Boqvist. My only other thing is I would do whatever I can to keep Zacha on the wing so my forwards would probably look like:
Zacha-Hischier-Bratt
Sharangovich-Hughes-Reinhart
Foote-Kuokkanen-Holtz
Wood-McLeod-Bastian</div></div>
That’s fair. I agree Zacha is much better on the wing, I was just trying to keep the Kuokkanen - Hughes - Sharangovich line together. And I guess I’m pretty high on Bahl hoping he is an NHL regular next season who can handle top 4 minutes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I am not bullish on Oleksiak. There will probably be better options on trade market.
Reinhart would be great if it were for more than one season. But for one year, Devils shouldn't give up much for rentals.
Connor Carrick was really bad in first half. After, he returned form AHL, he got a little better, but is still an 8th or 9th d-man.</div></div>
Reinhart is an RFA and if NJD can grab him, they can afford him for a longer term deal. I still see Carrick as a serviceable depth piece, but I agree that he definitely had his questionable moments last year.
I can see arguments against Oleksiak, but with a rebuilding team, I wouldn’t want to see NJD give up too much in the trade market. I feel like Big Rig is a low risk signing and you know what you’re getting.

Just curious
I understand OTT being thin at C (I don’t watch a lot of OTT hockey and for some reason thought White was at RW), but can someone explain to me how they are deep at LD?
On paper they have Chabot and Reilly and that’s really it. Walonin doesn’t look great, they have 4 RHD rostered, Coburn is 36 on the last year of his deal and spends half his time scratched or on the taxi squad, Brannstrom/Thomson/Docker are all righty’s, and Kleven is still a couple years out. Sanderson is really the only depth I see at LD. With 2 LDs coming off contract this year and Butcher still having a year left it would give OTT flexibility to flip him at the deadline next year or resign him if they want.
Again, I don’t watch a lot of OTT hockey, so I could be completely off here.

That’s what I was thinking, but this is CapFriendly. I thought I would ask opinions just so I don’t get torched in the comments.
Butcher would add more scoring depth on D (5v5 and the PP) for a team that has to out score their mistakes most nights. Adding Boqvist wouldn’t be too big of a deal for me if NJ can also get a pick, which I’m assuming would a 4th or later. I think OTT lacking depth at C would be the biggest issue.

That’s a lot easier said than done. Teams probably won’t want to give up what Detroit would ask for just to move up a couple spots. Detroit could have done the same thing with Seider, but trading down doesn’t just happen. You see a guy you want that early, you take him.

Well Nashville already owns NJs 2nd this year, but I wouldn’t mind throwing in McLeod if it pushes the trade through.
Edit: I think I misread the first time. If it’s more coming back to NJ, I’m all for it.
