Danault maneuver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Pacioretty had way more value than Danault lol
Suzuki was an A prospect
Tatar was a capdump
Suzuki was not an A prospect on the Knights, he was a B+ at most. Tatar may have been a cap dumb but he was a 20 goal scoring winger who still had value. Pacioretty was not more valuable than what Danault would be if extended. He’s a top 6 centre that is a top 10 selke nominee. Pacioretty requested for be traded which lowered his value.
Leafs need to dump cap and Kerfoot is not worth more than a late second on his own considering he has another year on his deal after this one. The Hawks 3rd will be like a late 2nd and Weals starts for them in their bottom 6.
Kulak is a #4-5 d man with only 1 year left at a really cheap deal. He gets you a second at the deadline so why not now when you get an extra few months with him.</div></div>

Danault deal seems a bit cheap. And you can probably trade Edmundson and a 3rd to have Seattle pick Byron which would save you more cap for Danault.

Habs don’t need draft picks, they’d rather have already drafted prospects who are closer to the NHL. Smith or Holtz would have to be included

They’d need both. He’s a 30 goal scorer with some of the best intangibles in the league.

Brendan Gallagher
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>1-year of Gallagher is not getting Smith, nor a 1st, and <strong><em>definitely</em></strong> <strong>not Holtz</strong>.
Mark Stone is not a good comparison for Brendan Gallagher...Stone is a lot better, especially defensively.
But if you want to use the Stone comp...Reilly Walsh, Miles Wood, and 2021st 2nd would be the trade.
Other comps
Gustav Nyquist: a 2nd and a 3rd.
Wayne Simmons: Hartman and a 4th
So....Merkley +2nd is probably a realistic return for both sides.</div></div>
3 months of Goodrow got a 1st rounder. And Gallagher compares to Stone a lot more than he does to Nyquist . Ty Smith and a 1st for a rental. Holtz if an extension is part of the trade. Habs would rather lose him for nothing than get some crappy players who would never make our nhl roster.

Gallagher doesn’t get 8 million unless he hits FA and some team overpays. He won’t make more than 6.5 with the Habs. He’s gonna be a 3rd line winger for us in a couple years. You can’t be giving 8 million to one for those.

You’re undervaluing Gallagher then. Top 10 rw in the league. You either use him as like a Rental and get no extra value other than his production or a team trades for him with an extension and you get a massive offer for him

6x4 years. If he says no to that, you either keep him for the 2 years and let him walk or you get a monster deal for him. Like a Teams top prospect and extra

Everyone mentions Gallagher to Vancouver but it would either be at the deadline or for podkolzin with Gallagher getting a new deal</div></div>
Habs don’t trade Gallagher unless there is an extension. He’s worth more as a 2 year rental for the Habs than the deal laid out here. Any Gally trade has Podzolkin. Since any Gally trade involves an extension.

Gallagher trade and Sutter cap dump
Any deal regarding Gallagher has to either be worth more than 2 years of a high quality rental or a trade and sign in which you’d have to give up more.
Habs would probably rather keep Gallagher for the 2 years for the playoffs pushes then get young pieces that aren’t extraordinary. Which means if he is traded, he’s being resigned like the Stone deal. In that case, Podzolkin or Boeser need to be coming back.

Kotkaniemi gets a bridge deal, and you don’t sign a 30 year old Gallagher to 8 years. That horrible for the future when the young guns get their big boy contacts

Gallagher is going to walk in a year. MTL is over the cap now. They'll trade him this off-season.
Think about it this way. Is Merkley + 2nd worth more than 2 years of production from Gallagher . Not even close. Even as a rental, you’re looking at Smith + 1st. If it’s like a Stone deal, Holtz is first person in the list and you may be need to add more. Habs will have 20+ million to resign players in the next couple seasons. Salary isn’t the issue with the Habs and Gally, it’s the term. He wants long term, Habs don’t.</div></div>

If Gallagher is traded, it’s definitely going to be a sign and trade. And for a sign and Trade, that’s nowhere near enough for him and Calgary don’t have the personnel to acquire Gallagher. You’re looking at a Top lw prospect or top defensive prospect

Habs get 1st overall
Everyone saying to add Suzuki or Kotkaniemi, ask yourself, is 1st overall a center? No, he’s a winger. Lowers value right there. Do the rangers need wingers, No they are playing Panarin to play there. Ylonen and Poehling are both top 6 prospects and you maybe replace the 2nd with a 2021 1st but you’re not getting that much for a winger.
