Start of the Rebuild
Ottawa's top 6 is pretty full right now. Ottawa's need is at RD. Carlo would be more of interest. I'd say a 1st round pick is a little rich for him. What would you be looking for in order to trade Carlo to Ottawa?

Ottawa doesn't need a LD. The Sens need a RD. What would it take to trade for Carlo? Would it still be a 2nd? Or would one of our RD prospects (Bernard-Docker / Thomson) have to be included?

I would much prefer Giroux. It all doesn't matter though because the sweetener was only a 3rd and a 7th, which is even better.

Ottawa declines. They have no interest in acquiring Puljujarvi. Brown is a better player and he can fetch a 1st round pick at the deadline if they hang onto him. Ottawa will likely trade him to acquire a top 4 RD if they move him.

If you look at it from a big picture point of view, the Sens would have 1 year of Kerfoot who is a decent player and then the year after they only have 1 year of half of Murray's salary. To be honest, this is the most reasonable offer I've seen to date. I would accept this. It's better than giving away Connor Brown for nothing rather than using him as a trade chip to get a top 4 RD.

Totally agree that they should be looking for a forward or defenseman. Unfortunately, it's looking like Edmonton isn't going to be able to get as much as they hoped for him. The best offer that's being reported by insiders is that they're being offered only a 3rd round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>You are crazy if you think the Canes are trading Pesce just to get Formenton, who isn’t even as good as Necas yet. I would expect for Pesce the starting piece is something along the lines of Tkachuk. And that is never happening so it’s a moot point.
For Formenton, I would offer up 2 quality prospects and a pick, with the prospects coming in about when Ottawa’s cup window starts to really open up. I would offer something along the lines of Honka, Gunler, and a 5th. A projected top 4 RHD and a projected top 6 RW, and a 5th. Do you think the Sens would consider that package.</div></div>
I'm not suggesting that it would just be Formenton. I was putting it out there to see what sort of package that includes Formenton would it take to get Pesce. The Sens are not in a rebuilding window anymore. You can see from the DeBrincat trade, the team is looking to fill in holes in the lineup so they can make the playoffs this season. A top 4 RD is a player they're looking for.

Edmonton is apparently having trouble even getting a 2nd round pick for him. You may have to lower your expectations. The return may be as low as a 3rd round pick. He's not as good as Edmonton fans make him out to be.

Really getting tired of seeing a bunch of Edmonton fan posts dumping Kassian in a trade to Ottawa and thinking it's fair value. Ottawa wants top 6 wingers or a top 4 RD. If you want to dump Kassian, the only acceptable return is if you're taking Matt Murray or Nikita Zaitsev back. If you want Connor Brown, the only player Ottawa would be interested in is Evan Bouchard and I'm pretty confident that's a non-starter.

From an Ottawa perspective, Batherson is not available. There is also no need to retain salary on Pasta. Connor Brown or Alex Formenton would be roster players that can be included instead.

Ottawa has no interest in Kassian. He does not meet any of Ottawa's needs. Since he is a cap dump, you would need to attach a sweetener to take his contract on.

Ottawa wouldn't make that trade with Pinto included. I think if you switch out Pinto for a prospect or 2 like Jarventie and Lodin, that would work.
I'm sure Ottawa would also do their 2 2nd round picks with Connor Brown for number 2 overall.

Maximize wLittle Cap Space
With Kassian being a cap dump, you would have to give more than just a 5th round pick. Otherwise you're looking at taking another cap dump back in Matt Murray (with retained salary) or Nikita Zaitsev.
I would suggest removing the 2nd round pick coming back with Matt Dumba as well. Puljujärvi and Barrie barely equal fair value for Dumba. Since Minnesota is in a cap crunch, it could work.
This lineup would also fail to address Edmonton's biggest need in goaltending. Maybe they could offer up a nice contract for Ville Husso.

Cat Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I've had this discussion with Sens fans and it seems to be the consensus that Sanderson is untouchable. But we need RHD more than LHD anyway, and I was told that JBD or Thomson could be on the table for a Cat trade.</div></div>
Yes. Bernard-Docker or Thomson would replace Sanderson. Both are very good RD prospects. To replace the 2023 1st round pick, I think it would be more realistic to have Alex Formenton included. He's a 21 year old LW with lots of speed. He scored 18 goals this season playing on the 2nd line and he's good at killing penalties. A lot of Sens fans are also high on Ridly Greig and so is the organization. Would you consider taking Viktor Lodin instead? He's looking like he's going to be a good prospect as well. I just know that Greig is going to fit well into our lineup and Lodin is a type of player that we have an excess of. You can take out the Minnesota 2nd rounder to make up for it.
To summarize:
To Chicago - Bernard-Docker or Thomson, 2022 1st Round Pick (7th overall), Lodin & 2022 2nd Round Pick (Tampa Bay)
To Ottawa - DeBrincat & Murphy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNHockey19</b></div><div>this is my unprofessional opinion, but i would say maybe an extra prospect or 2nd round pick with what i have now. Probably something like fiala and dumba for two picks in the first two rounds and a prospect. But I am not sure, I haven't seen a lot of fiala and dumba packages</div></div>
I'm not too worried about the pick being unprotected. Ideally if you're adding Fiala and possibly Dumba, then the team shouldn't be finishing in the bottom 10. People also have to consider that Minnesota is not in a position where they can negotiate with a lot of power. They're in a serious cap crunch and Fiala just had a career year. They need to trade salary. There aren't many teams that have the cap space to just trade no salary back to the Wild.
As for throwing Dumba in, Ottawa could offer up Tampa's 2nd round pick and one of our goalie prospects. Probably Mandolese. Or since you need a backup goalie and it's unlikely that Fleury will re-sign, we could send Gustavsson and a 3rd round pick instead. What are your thoughts?

If Tkachuk wants 11 million or more this is the trade to make
Ottawa would not accept trading for Matthew if it means giving up their best RW and their #1 Centre. Plus you want Ottawa to throw in next year's first? Next year's first being top 3 protected and JBD can be fair, but you're going to have to look at someone like Connor Brown, Alex Formenton or Mathieu Joseph if you want a roster player that Ottawa would be willing to part with. Otherwise you're looking at some of Ottawa's prospects.

That seems like a fair trade that Ottawa would accept. I'm curious from a Minnesota fan perspective, what would need to be added to throw Dumba in the trade as well?

Ottawa doesn't need a Centre. I think Ottawa would be interested in DeBrincat. Ottawa's 7th overall would definitely be included. If a prospect and a player was included, would that be interesting from a Chicago perspective?

What if Dorion actually did get a top 6 forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Melnyk_0ut</b></div><div>two would be nice but not realistic. I'd be very comfortable with our forward group if we acquired only one, especially with guys like Formenton, Pinto, Brown, Joseph who can all easily slot into the top 6 and be complement players if needed. I agree we need one more defenceman but I don't think it will happen, especially after the acquisition of Hamonic. I'm okay with Hamonic as a #4 for now. The 6 I have above is easily the best group we've had in a long time (which isn't a high bar but I'll take it)</div></div>
I agree that it will likely just be the 1 top 6 forward, but I still think they'll come up short next season when it comes to the playoffs. I agree it's not likely to happen, but it's definitely what's needed to have a good chance at the post season. We'll see what happens. I do hope they fill all 3 needs though and dump Zaitsev.
