No, rust is not comparable value wise to guentzel. I know that EDM needs LW more than RW, but if guentzel were traded for that low of value Hextall would be fired on the spot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Malkin, but I believe that the pens are better without him on the ice/on the roster. It has been 2 seasons in a row where he has been injured for a period of time and the pens are better without him, and when he comes back they get worse. I agree that his value may be low right now, but anything above two 2cnds I would take

Why not, he is a solid depth scoring player that I believe would be perfect as a 3rd line winger or center.

He still has positive value. His contract is not bad, he is just in a similar situation as Tyler Johnson is in Tampa. He is being paid too much for the role he is being deployed in, and the money could be used better elsewhere. He would be a solid supporting player for Calgary. Plus he is only 25. In no world would ANYONE buy him out.

I agree that they most likely won’t make many moves or trade those players, but every move other than the Giordano trade the team gets younger. Bastian will be a great middle/top 6 talent in the future for the pens, Laine is younger than Guentzel and bigger as well which fill fit the mold of what Hextall will try to build this team into, and Puljarvi should be a player that fits the future of this team as well. This acgm was done to change around the supporting pieces in order to extend the competitive window of this team and allow for an easier rebuild in the future.

I believe that it would have to be after, because as far as I know there are no opportunities to trade before the expansion draft.

I do agree that EDM is strong on the right side, but I don’t view any of them as good line mates for McDavid. Puljarvi is a middle six talent, Yamamoto is not quite ready for first line minutes, and Archibald and Kassian are bottom six wingers
