All in
I agree Tkachuck is too hard to give up, we could use our prospect depth and a Brodie or Stone before i move Tkachuck.
Desharnais is barely an upgrade on Stajan, we have people to replace stajan, we need to replace the knowledge and hockey IQ lost with Versteeg more than worrying about the 4th line.
Versteeg is out long term if not for the season with his surgery and Brouwer has proved he is not a top liner on this team

CGY trade - Flames fans?
i have a feeling if he is traded it would be for a similar package that we picked up Lazar for last year.
I think that this is close but i don't know if i would pull the trigger if I was GM.
I am hopeful that having Bennett on the wing on a line with Jagr will help him get out of this slump.

I looked at doing that but the 3M line is still playing great and didn't want to break them up

Pens/Flames
This trade makes no sense for the Flames, Backlund is the key to the flames PK and was a Selke candidate last year, he should get a nice raise in Calgary after this year, and Maatta is not going to have room to move beyond the 3rd pairing. We have enough young Dmen waiting for a chance.
No thanks.

Something I saw
Trade doesn't make any sense from the hawks stand point. Huge upgrade for the flames.
Also Bennett will not get close to 3.5 or 3 years.

I believe I read that you can go over the cap as long as it's only signing bounces</div></div>
I am pretty sure that is performance bonuses, but they are counted as a cap hit the following year no matter what.

Any suggestions?
There is no way that you can get a "Good Young Top 4, Puck-Moving LHD" without giving up much, so your question is irrelevant.

As a flames fan, my guess you would need to be throwing in 1st rounders plus Drouin to get Backland out of this team, Byron was a flame and the Habs claimed him on waivers, the "fast little bugger" doesn't play a tre/Burke game so he adds no value to this team.

2 BLOCKBUSTERS AND MORE
As a Flames fan not sure which is worse, the trade from the Habs perspective or giving Bennett that much money and term. Everything i have read has him signing 2.25-2.75 for max 2 year bridge, he hasn't earned more than that.
Other trades could work depending on what other moves the teams make, but can't see the Sens letting Ceci go after losing Methot, let alone to a division team, without getting a D back.

Calgary is also the first wild card and wouldn't be playing Edmonton in your scenario. First wild card plays the lower of the two first seeds.

Trade Deadline Tear Down
I think that the values are there but a team can only retain a max of 3 contracts i believe so Vancouver is in tough with 2 already on the books.

A Trade with Calgary ***With Description***
Calgary doesn't need goalie prospects. The only goalie that would be worth while would be a upgrade on Smith as a starter but Smith should be an upgrade on the last few years.
Backland is also finally becoming the player he was drafted to be 10 years ago, and he should be in the teams long term plans. He had a Selke caliber season last year and playing with Frolik again makes me believe he could do it again.
Jankowski was drafted as a 5 year project and that would mean this year is when he was expected to make his move and all signs point to him being in the lineup this season.
So in all, as a flames fan i am not moving those two players.

Bennet to Mtl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Darkale</b></div><div>I Know it's a lot for Bennett but... I mean... He's the best player of the trade and he fill a huge need for Mtl. BTW I know that Poirier is a bust but he could maybe jump out in the new farm team in Laval...</div></div>
I disagree with the implications that Poirier is a bust, he had personal issues and that affected his play last year. He has cleaned up his personal life and should be a player who will push for a roster spot or will be a call up early when there are injuries.

painfull to the wallet pressbox
I think you really have a good idea for what Gully could do with the lineup (if they bring in PA) I see Stajan getting more games than Freddy but not far off.
If Poirier has his life back on track as they say he does after development camp than he could potentially play a larger role than just 4th line minutes.
I also expect Bennett to sign for another 500,000. I think 2.75 is more comparable than 2.25.

The story continues
All 3 of your teams make sense and i do appreciate your progression over the 3 years. Only thing is I am not sure about the RNH trade for Brodie. Firstly the teams have really only made 2 trade and that was Staios and Smid coming over to Calgary. Although this is a "hockey" trade I really can't see the teams agreeing to make each other better.

PHI / VGK / Jagr
When building a team, there is no chance that a player just signed to a contract will be traded. Stone is not going anywhere nor is Bennett.

Realistic?
I think that these contracts are realistic for those players... they are young but wont sign for less than those amounts.
Brouwer has to play somewhere and your not putting him with Johnny and Sean or breaking up the backland line....
