I agree Laine is as injury prone as Norris is, if not more, but I think the contract balances out. I kinda like the thought of Laine playing with G and Timmy too</div></div>
I've got no time for more lazy defensive players on the team.

Flames - Sens
I'm not sure this would be a good move for Ottawa. Mangiapane has become a pretty reliable all-around forward, but I think Greig will be better. Also a s*** disturber of the good type.
Chychrun, I haven't watched nearly as many games involving him as I have Andersson, but I don't think I'm too far off in saying they have close enough to equal value as defencemen, overall. One is a leftie, the other a rightie.
Replace Greig with a different Senators forward, or Mangiapane with a different Flames forward.... I think Ottawa could ask for Martin Pospisil and Andersson in this case, and maybe ask for a mid to late round pick or something too, maybe more. I think they are pretty high on Greig..

Pinto isn't worth what Ottawa fans think he is but he'll still fetch more than a 7th and a pair of AHL players.

Zibanejad For Brassard 2 point Oh Clean and simple Pinto trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GDubb2Shiesty</b></div><div>just wondering why it'll cost so much to dump joseph when he's a 26 year old quick playing 3rd line winger. This seems like a steep price to pay to dump him when imo he has/had more value than then zaitsev and it costed a 2nd and fourth. Im sure the sens can find a trade partner like ARZ, CHI or ANA that could make use of him and not cost us as much.</div></div>
Term+timing.
It is the worst possible time to dump a contract. It is easier to dump a contract early in the off season while teams still have cap flexibility, or at the trade deadline when some teams who know they are out of it can take on moving parts.
Going by Capfriendly's charts, there are only 8 teams with 3M+ of open cap space. Out of those 8 teams, a few like Arizona might be budget teams, which eliminates them. While this might not be entirely accurate with rosters not set yet, it still shows how few places there are to dump contracts.

fair for both imo
I know it's easy to poke holes in this based on last year's numbers but at the end of the day. Carolina ran out of steam in the playoffs. they could really use a goal scorer like Debrincat. necas would really keep things moving with someone like Norris.
sincerely a biased Sens fan

Hellebuyck to Ottawa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hitagi_Senpai</b></div><div>If there is no extension for Buyck then sure, agreed. But if they retain his services further than that, this is really bad for the Jets.</div></div>
That's the scary part for me. Goaltenders (for the most part) after 30 can be a crap shoot. I'm a firm believer that no team should sign a goalie for more than 4 years, and over 30 no more than 3. That's still not worth it in my eyes for HB, cause I don't think he'd sign an extension in OTT.

Blow it up commiting nearly 40M of cap to 4 players wont work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GDubb2Shiesty</b></div><div>I love Sanderson and I do think he's an elite defenseman but even as a sens fan there is no way edmonton would do this lol</div></div>
As good as Draisaitl is, Ottawa is not doing that for sure.
What is important for them is to look at contracts first. Draisatil has only 2 years left before UFA. Taking him without guarantee that he would stay is way too risky. Plus, how much he'd make on his next contract? If he gets 13.5 AAV, there's a big difference in value vs his current contract
Sanderson is also not for trade, he's a pure gem with a possible 9 more years under control
Because of Draisaitl term left, this is an overpay
As crazy as it sounds, Draisaitl is also not the type of player the Sens need
Needs are :
- new GM, that's the basis for me. Someone who has a bit of foresight, can do some healthy asset management and has some grasp of how to construct a roster properly
- new coaching staff who knows what is 2-way hockey
- 1A or 1B goalie. Forsberg is good, need another guy like him. Gustavsson-Forsberg would have been a great duo!
- Defensive RHD to play with Chabot. Like Erik Karlsson before, he needs his Methot (Chychrun is a very good player but that was again, not the real need)
- 2 middle-6 forwards who are good at 2-way hockey. Nick Paul and Connor Brown should have never been traded. Alex Formenton could be back but we have no idea about it so can't expect it. Ridly Greig will develop into one but shouldn't be thrown to the wolves.
Ideally you trade DeBrincat and with the cap space and assets gained, you fill the 2 spots here more adequately :
Tkachuk - Stutzle - ??????
?????? - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Giroux

The potential is still there, it's just getting more and more unlikely to achieve that. Although he seems like a great player to quarterback your pp, its just 5v5 he is underwhelming, but im sure he could become one in another system. But if you wanted him, the trade would prob be one for one with Bear

Also, i think the Sens are going to pay a higher price to move Murry. I like Brown as a player but Leafs cant afford him now.
