Jacob Trouba is on one this season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>Okay, I had to go back and watch it AGAIN, before I responded. I just don’t agree honestly. Khaira’s head wasn’t up to the point that he knew what was coming. I truly believe trouba was going for chest and if khaira woulda had his head up that’s what would have happened. I do agree that it isn’t about the intention and that it’s about the act. Either way, trouba is playing tonight for the rangers and I do endorse it. It wasn’t from the blindside, boarding, behind, etc. so I don’t have much to rib the guy for. It was an open ice hit, and I got flashbacks to the Campbell on umberger hit in this one. I’ve been hit like this plenty of times too, but I never blamed the other player for it.</div></div>
Healthy convo here and we've had these before.
To me the "head up" is less about Khaira's awareness. He very clearly wasn't paying attention to his surroundings and his own well being. That's not the point though. To me, It's that while his eye and focus were downward. His head was actually up. So if your head is up....It's just a high hit. Trouba's not a bad guy. He doesn't deserve Tom Wilson treatment. It's just that imo (to which I 100% respect yours) he needs ANOTHER reminder that these hits aren't allowable. He sent someone to the hospital because he hit another guy high.

I dont think anyone can find fault in your argument and the way you feel Hatter. Hopefully this doesnt change your love for the sport itself, because at the end of the day that is all it is: a sport. Very sad others would put it above the safety and well being of a young man, practically a kid so that their victories wouldnt be overshadowed by scandal. When/if you decide to come back you'll always be welcomed with open arms. Good luck to you Hatter.

no, that's fair, honestly.
sports fandom is a two-way street, as much as some people may or may not forget. your end of the bargain is to cheer for the team and support them, and their end of the bargain is to act and comport themselves in a way that deserves support. if they don't hold up their end of the bargain, you're well within your rights to say, "i'm done here."
this organization has done terrible things, no ifs, ands, or buts. the fanbase as a whole <em>should</em> be asking them why this was allowed to happen and why they should remain fans of this team. and the fanbase is well within their rights to say, "i'm outta here if you can't show that you can change for the better or if i don't believe that you can change for the better."
and condoning these things or coming up with excuses for them says a lot about the person doing such things, and not in a great way. (to be clear, i'm speaking simply as a commenter here and not as a forum moderator, but i would hope that the position of the Davis brothers and the rest of the CF mods is "this was a terrible and shameful thing to have happened".)

If we're entering a full scale rebuild it just makes sense to move him and get another first back. We're probably losing our 2022 pick, but I wouldn't mind loading up on 2023 picks in the Bedard/Michkov draft

The Wirtz family needs to sell the team. Bettman needs to reach out to Adam Silver and how they approached Don Sterling situation with the Clippers. EVERYONE in power needs to go. Q fired. Chevy fired. Marc Bergevin who people aren't talking about...why is MTL not willing to extend him? MB also drafted Mailloux... Everyone from that organization needs to be sent to into retirement from the NHL. I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule, but I can't think of those exceptions right now.

Kane trade makes sense for both, but don't think Hawks need to retain that much; more around $4M.

I'm with you. Last night was just me laughing. How can 3 Hawks forward go after the 1 DET Dman SOOO many times. Why do all 3 forwards need to cover the puck. Can no one play away from it? JC needs to go. At this point, even just because he's lost the locker. Words from Kaner speak less than actions by an entire team. He does not have the team ready.

It frees up cap and a spot. As for lapierre, I feel like I’d want either him or mcmichael out of said trade. If it took taking a pick out of the trade that’d be fair.</div></div>
Oshie has said he wants to finish his career in DC, so he would most likely use his NTC to prevent any trade. On Lapierre, I do agree they would want one of the two, I just don't think Washington would be willing to part with that much, as it seems MacLellan might finally be planning for the future in some capacity

Honest Question
The Boqvist trade is very different than the Panarin trade. The honest response between those trades is...go look at the voting and comments on the day of the Panarin trade. Link Below. People thought CBJ won, but Panarin was a 60-65 point player that might fail in Torts system...and might go back to the KHL. The distain for the Panarin trade is PURELY hindsight. Again, the post asks to be honest...If someone told me today.....that back in June of 2017, they though Panarin would be a Hart candidate...they're just lying. It's a lie.
I can admit (just like I admit I wanted Byram over Dach) that I wanted Seth Jones as a Hawk. My issue with that trade is ALL the other stuff. Boqvist, the 2021 swap, the 2022 pick, the $9.5M contract...it's just all so much garbage. Wait the 1 freakin season STAN! Nothing about the Boqvist trade made sense from day 1. There's not hindsight there. It's immediate and was stupid on day 1.
Now going forward it's ROUGH. Stan's probably sitting there pointing to high danger chances allowed and just saying...all we need is time. So stupid, but that's probably what he's thinking. I'm HOPING (but not holding my breath) that Seth Jones will be like Campbell. At the time of the Campbell signing he was overpaid too, BUT you need to overpay a UFA for a team rebuidling. That doesn't make the trade ok. It's NOT ok. It's just a full admission that everyone of value that's older need to be traded away. Toews/Kane/Kubalik/MAF...probably the cat too. Rebuild it right. Don't go half way.

This may be unpopular, but the losing mentality may not be from JC if it exists in the first place. I remember when Coach Q was still around the team had trouble starting and ending on time. Not saying JC doesn’t deserve criticism, but wondering about why some things have remained consistent across coaches, teams, systems and ETC. In any case this team needs to turn it around soon. Unlike Q’s late rosters, this one should have enough talent to turn it around.

Time for a Trigger
I think Pang is half right about Dach's shot, in that I do think he has a good one, but from what I've seen and read about Dach is that his shot is a complement to the real asset he has, which is his vision. He was always able to see things really well at lower levels in his career which allowed him to score goals that no one else could score (a testament to his finishing), but it also helped him in his playmaking which is how he was able to rack up the assists in the WHL. I don't think he's quite figured that out at the NHL level yet, but he's only 20 years old.
That said, Byram was always the better prospect, and a lot of people criticized Chicago at the time for reaching on Dach when Byram (and others) were available. In that sense, Dach is probably unfairly going to have to be compared to someone like Byram when you really can't blame a player for getting picked too high. But it's only been one game, Byram played not near as tough of minutes as Dach last night and he plays on a much better team. I do think Byram is going to be the better player (even though comparing a defenseman to a forward is apples to oranges in some regards) but it's much too early to make any definitive statements about Byram's progression or Dach's lack therof and Dach is still going to be a good player in this league. It may be as simple as "he was picked ahead of better players", and like I said, not his fault.

My only response to a post like this is, “What would change if Byram was on Chicago and Dach was on Colorado” my answer is that the better player from a fan perspective will always be on Colorado. They are better at developing players, and creating good hockey teams. It’s just the way it is.. if Byram was drafted by the hawks my guess is that he would have been traded by now, probably a throw into the Jones deal in all likelihood. It’s because Chicago rushes players and gets disillusioned at the first sign of struggle… that’s why Mitchell will be in RFD, why Boq will be in CBJ, and why Joki will be in BUF.

I think it's definitely worse that Stan has consistently mismanaged the roster and its assets. The draft last year sucked, the only NHL player we might get is Colton Dach... and that's purely a nepotism pick.

So Far How it is Shaping Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Bingo Exo, not saying he shouldn't be on the team, but Coach C and Bowman are setting him up for failure. At this point, they need to showcase in a top 6 role for nothing more but to bring his trade value up. Package him, Nylander (who also isn't being put in the best position to succeed) and get back a 1st pick or include beaudin or mitchell and go after Lindholm. We have to look ahead and that is without De Haan on the roster. McCabe, Jones, Murphy, Lindholm would be an incredibly good top 4 with Caleb, Kalynuk and Stillman battling it out for last 2 spots. Beaudin + Strome + Nylander and a pick should land Lindholm. With that amount of shut down defenders on the team, it should open up the offense and allow these forwards to flourish.</div></div>
Regarding asset management, I hope Stan does pull the trigger and trades the 2023 1st, why not? Every first round pick they've drafted between 2012-2018 has been traded anyway (If they didn't trade the pick for a rental beforehand). Teuvo, Hartman, Jokiharju, Boqvist, Schmaltz. At this point, why even bother waiting 3 years to see who they are? Just trade them! They might not have 3 more years of Kane and Toews, so if they're trying to win, it's gotta be this season and the next. What's a 2023 1st going to do when Stan inevitably trades him away in 2025? They have a knack for signing talent from overseas anyway.
This leads me to my next topic. Is $5M a year for Johnson worth it over $3.25M for Pius Suter? Another bloated contract to put next to Connolly's. Eventually, overseas talent will have a different perception of the hawks, considering they never last in Chicago. Kahun looked great, traded him away, fizzled, went back to Europe. Didn't have the stones to pay Panarin, traded him away for Saad. I've legitimately lost track of how many times they traded Saad, it's a complete joke. I'd argue the hawks have one of the least creative front offices in the league, but then I look at Vancouver, Anaheim, San Jose, and Nashville. A lot of teams in this league would benefit greatly from new/younger leaders in the GM roles.

So Far How it is Shaping Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>In all fairness, while this is 100% on stan, the rational is basically cuz of one man. Strome isn’t being played to his strengths solely because of Dach. Dach is the golden boy and whether or not he fits with them, stan and JC will FORCE that line of cat, Kane, and Dach together. Still, that isn’t what’s best for the team whatsoever. Strome belongs with those two based on chemistry and performance when all three are healthy.
But as it stands, I can’t believe how deliberately the hawks are tanking Strome and even nylander’s values. One common theme amongst hawks fans on this site is the idea of ASSET MANAGEMENT. So I ask all the hawks fans: how’s our asset management looking on these two?</div></div>
There are a couple of things to this. The difference between Dach and Strome is big. Kirby has looked so much faster and aware. In my opinion, it's not that he won't make another mistake ever, but that he actually looks like he is reaching his potential. I'm not against trying Kirby at wing, but I'm not demanding that either.
I agree with you on asset management. The Seth Jones trade is a ridiculous extreme, but very real example of this. (2.5) 1sts for 1 year of Jones is bananas. No one else was going to offer $9.5M...and let's pretend someone was. Is the extra $500k Stan would offer worth (2.5) 1sts....um yeah.
I actually like getting more centers than needed this year. Who knows what would have happened with Toews? Centers are more difficult to find than wingers too. I also like the competition. What I don't like is that Strome hasn't been allowed to center a top 6 line in a year. Thats who he is. Hes not a #4C. He's not a #3LW. What's next, defense?
In net? If you don't want to play someone where they can help the team...trade him. Thats where I'm at with Stan's asset management. Maybe it'll come soon because Borgstrom and TJ are out playing Strome. I'd rather get assets back than pretend Strome can be a #3LW or #4C.
Nylander is a more complicated situation. His trade value is practically nothing...so why not just keep him.
