This is where EA sports gets the idea of a 2nd rd pick 3 years out having miniscule value

To anyone who thought they overpaid for a "washed" Taresenko, this more than makes up for it. To not give up a 1st unconditionally is wild

He'll be 33 in the playoffs .... and 36 when his contract expires.</div></div>
The extra year and weight of the contract is a substantial difference, regardless of the this resurgence Karlsson is having

(NSH/EDM) - Ekholm and 6th for Barrie, Schaefer, 1st and 4th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>How did they overpay? You would have crucified Holland had he done nothing! They had to give up something, other teams were bidding, they needed Ekholm badly.
Its TDL prices not the offseason. I dont see how they could have done better than this. Nashville also does well as they can flip Barrie next season or maybe this season for picks.
This is a win-win trade.
Barrie, I know, they could have still used but still they gave up nothing worthwhile for a legit prime top4 piece that they needed with size that can shutdown the opposition and we break up that Nurse-Ceci pairing.</div></div>
Easy there big shoots, I agree with them going after Ekholm instead of Karlsson. Very well could be a win-win deal, but I'm willing to say that NSH got the better end of this deal (Provided NSH doesnt completely blow it up, which I hardly to be the case). I also loath Holland for the shambles he left the wings in.

Ekholm was always an underrated defenseman to me, really love this for EDM bc they now get to avoid Karlsson massive length of a contract. With that said, they over paid.

Abso-****in-lutely! Walman has more than earned this contract this year, his pairing with Seider has worked wonders. Especially since the Charot/Seider combo failed so miserably earlier in the year. This undoubtedly means that Charot will not live out his contract here. Hopefully he's not as bad as a cap casualty as I fear he will be.

The quite bad over that period Vancouver Canucks have had 6 picks in the first 4 round over the last 3 years (https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00008756.html) and while that is one more than the Leafs, the Leafs have two 1sts to their one.
But yeah the Leafs have moved a looooot of draft capital. They haven't moved the majority of their prospects though. Yet...</div></div>
Well to your point, if we extended it back. The leafs haven't used a 1st rd pick since 2020 so kinda adds fuel to the fire. But at the end of the day, it's funny which ever team just disregards their future to win now and still get thrashed in the postseason. I know most team in win now mode do that but there are degrees in which some turn wreckless. This could be one if they can't right the ship and they lose Matthews.

Leafs having 5 (of a potential 12) picks in the first 4 rounds over the next 3 years is an ultimate "F them picks" lol. If they can't manage to surpass tampa this year in the first rd, you might all hear my laughing in the distance.

More than okay with this contract, he's been a consistent D-man on an otherwise inconsistent defensive team. Plus you can put him on all lines. Solid signing

Forsberg and Zibanejad haven't even made it to year 2 of their contracts yet, and Sergachev is still playing on his old contract, hard to say they have already "lived up" to the contract. And the fact of the matter is to suggest every single player has lived up to their 8x8.5+ is silly.
