Trades to get us into the playoffs

Yes, I don’t like giving the first in the trade, I would rather not, and don’t think we have to. I agree that it’s either close, or spot on.. it’s interesting to see other’s opinions, and I’m not saying you are wrong. I just like it that you didn’t try and rip me apart! How doesn’t Samorukov do anything for you guys? He can play both sides well.</div></div>
I truly haven’t seen him play I just quickly glanced at numbers and saw he has 3 points in the ahl and had 8 in the khl so unless he’s some defensive juggernaut I’m not sure if there’s any value there. If your telling me he’s like edmunson for us where he’s good defensively hits and blocks ****s and will be a top 4 d then I don’t see any real value to move a trade in a direction or the other

Savoie, and Samorukov are both good prospects, the pick is good, and yes you would get a second for Barrie. I would not upgrade the second to a first… that’s too much In my opinion.</div></div>
My only problem is
Chiarot gets a first. And toffoli could probably get a savoie or a first on his own. Samorukov doesn’t do anything
Again it’s not too far off just the second to a first which you don’t like

the value for Montreal isn't terrible but I think maybe a little more would be necessary. Barrie has minimal value if we were to flip him, savoie is nice and the other guy isn't anything and a second.
if we flip barrie we get what a second? so a good middle six player on a solid deal and a top 4 d for two seconds and a decent prospect? maybe if you turned that second into a first

Im good with that trade although not sure why you want Drouin? Dvorak on the third line would play better than he is now as much weaker opposition and he can help Edmonton especially winning face-offs. Drouin doesn't score many goals which is why its a little confusing. Toffoli is slow a molasses but paired with draisaitl could be pretty good.

Florida traded away its 2022 1st to Buffalo.
It will need to be for 2023.
I just happened to hear what Pierre Lebrun had to say about Florida's interest in Chiarot.
Also, the fact that the draft is in Montreal should have absolutely no bearing on the value that Montreal gets from any trade.</div></div>
how'd I forget they gave up the pick.
also I mentioned the draft being in Montreal because they might want the pick in 2022 so they could have multiple picks at home. Now they might target a 23 draft pick as next years draft looks insane, and odds are even later in the draft will be strong, who knows

We have a billion left handed d prospects. A first and 3 probably gets the deal done. Id assume the pick is this year as the draft is Montreal and for Florida they're draft position is more certain this year

lol so precisely what I was saying then as I stated earlier, you don't pick either of those guys with a top-5 pick... Fine take them over Cooley/Yurov/Slafkovsky but not the others who are game breakers and will be high impact offensive catalysts for whichever team drafts them</div></div>
If we wanna get technical I didn’t say firmly to take Miroshnichenko. I said maybe but it’s tough for me. If you take Wright, savoie,Lambert, kemell that makes the the d you take a top 5 pick
Not sure why you’d be upset with him going 5 but not 6. The strength of the draft would determine that one spot
To me if you have the balls you take Miroshnichenko 5 but it also depends on your team. Currently I’m not having him as a firm pick over the two d

Dude can skate, hit and has an absolutely lethal shot both wrister and one timer from the ovi office
unfortunately he's been inconsistent in the points department in the vhl this year
its a tough call for me to take him ahead of Nemec and Jiricek but I just really like this kid and if you can get a 40 goal scorer who can riffle it on the pp and hit , my goodness you've got a beast

id add Lambert to that list above Nemec and jiricek. he can skate so well, pass really well. Im still a fan of Miroshnichenko but that's a tough one. To me Nemec and Jiricek become the best player available (which a term I hate) ahead of cooley Slafkovsky and Yurov

why would you take a much weaker player just to gain a second. Our conversation seems to come down to you being fine with mediocrity and me not liking mediocrity. I mentioned 7 years as Cooley Yurok Slafkovsky are probably 5 years away from a prime impact so I added two years because they are defence man.
My opinion is and will continue to be get massive impact players and build off them for a championship team and add mediocre players to finish off the roster not to build around

Id rather wait 7 years for massive impact than 5 for mediocre impact. Is your goal with this potential top 5 pick to turn the habs around as to me outside of your top 4 those players are very long shots to be the type of player to turn a team around. watching Montreal for years I absolutely am driven mental but mediocre players
To me based on your list if you have pick 5 you either pick Miroshnichenko as he has massive upside or you grab one of the two d
Very good but not elite defensemen have so much more value than mediocre/solid forwards. Not sure why you'd take the considerably less valuable player simply because they impact the team early
Also defensemen outside of Nemec and Jiricek are absolute crap shoots while you can get some legitimate forwards with massive skill like lekkerimaki in the first round and there's always tons of talented forwards in the other rounds
Draft the defensemen over cooley Yurok geekie and Slafkovsky and wait the extra couple of years as its worth it. Also really good defencemen develop pretty quickly

One you take with a top-5 pick, the other you don't. Alls I'm saying is, you don't go after a defensemen at 1-5 if you're not 100% sure they will be a top-2 on your team for the next decade +
My rankings are I would have the Forward group with bigger star potential from 1-7 and Nemec & Jiricek just inside/outside the top-8
1. Wright
2. Kemell
3. Savoie
4. Lambert
5. Yurov
6. Cooley
7. Slafkovsky
8. Miroshnichenko/Nemec/Jiricek</div></div>
I understand your point now, I know its early but Yurov cooley and Slafkovsky project as middle six players. just wondering why your comfortable with a most likely middle six winger over a sure thing top 4 dman. Like Nemec and jiricek are in the Jeff perty (outside of this year ) category with some more upside while you listed three players who are in the Toffoli territory (outside of last year)
I can certainly understand if you had him at 5. Again the confusing thing is your okay with meh forwards but will only take elite defensemen?

Both of these two are firmly very good defensemen who should certainly be considered in the top 5. If other people mention top pair that's on them, I won't go that far just as I wouldn't when Hanifin went 5

seider was ranked 16 by bob Mckenzie who interviews 10 scouts and averages it out. Everybody was shocked when seider was taken sixth.Central scouting had him as the number 4 European D. I can't find one person who had him top 10, highest being 15. Nemec and Jiricek are both considered to be easy top 4 dmen who have a legitimate shot at being top pair
Not saying that's who'd id take, as it depends on where we pick and whose gone. But to lose your mind about picking them isn't that smart

What do you think of these deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I hope/think a retool makes more sense, while we could use a top talent (I assume we get one this draft) our team has a good balance of young guys, guys in their prime and aging vets. There are 3 guys (Hoffman, Savard and Dvorak) on our healthy roster that I would love to move on from as they are not living up to expectations and of course we still need a top 4 PMD preferably LH'ed. Fix those issues and this roster is once again solid. There are a couple of FA centers I would love to attract if we moved Dvorak at the deadline (Kadri, Hertl, either Strome, Domi and KK (if he is left extended)). Also if we could nab Wright, Savoie, Cooley or Lambert at the draft any one of them would also be a good add down the middle (Lambert is a bit of a risk but may be worth it if we fall a bit and don't win the lottery or if we pick up a second pick in the 8-15 range via the trade deadline)</div></div>
id say its probably 50/50 maybe 60/40 at this point that we retool. We do have solid young pieces like Suzuki Caufield Guhle and a few others. As you mentioned we need some high end talent especially down the middle.
Here is my problem with a retool, We've had our conversation about Gallagher and somewhat agreed that the last two or three years might be bad, Petry isn't getting younger and neither is price. Im not entirely convinced that this team can be legitimate contenders simply from making some moves this off-season.
Toffoli-suzuki-caufiled
Drouin-hertl-gallagher
50-60ptslw-dvorak-anderson
Poehling-evans-lehkonen. and you move Byron and Armia
Edmundson-petry
pmd-savard
Guhle-romanov
and price is a mystery. I don't mind Dvorak at all as a 3 line centre, problem is he playing too big of a role and the expectations are too high.
this team that I just made might be able to sneak into the playoffs if everything goes right. but should we really be adding 7x7 or so for hertl(for example) to our large and aging contracts of Gallagher price Petry and Anderson for a team that might make the playoffs if everything goes right?
to me you should rebuild. Add a first for Chiarot and maybe another for next year for Toffoli and build solely around young guys and as I said above sign your nice free agents and make your big trades when your ready, ideally when Bedard/ (whoever your 2023 pick is) is in their 3 or 4 year
just off the top of my head you could build around
Bedard and Suzuki
Michkov and Suzuki
Fanitili and suzuki
dvorsky and suzuki
plus Caufield, maybe Lambert Miroshnichenko or savoie and add a guy like lekkerimaki with that second pick
and on defence
Guhle romanov norlinder strube Mailloux Harris if he signs jiricek or namec if you draft them
Bedard-Lambert
Suzuki-Caufield
- lekkerimaki
Guhle-Mailloux
Romanov-Harris maybe
Norlinder-Struble
that's pretty damn good if you ask me

I like the first few things. building around those young players, problem is you've committed to winning too soon. you'll have a 30 years old huberdeau playing while Bedard is in his rookie season. to me the rebuild should finish around the same time that your big contracts end, price Gallagher Anderson and Petry. Those contracts end and you can use their money to spend. Build the kids up and spend the money when the time is right on the players whose time lines add up

I suspect Gally will score 20-30 goals over the next 2 or 3 years and can live with 2 or 3 years of less productivity given the blood sweat and tears he has shed for the Habs already.</div></div>
which is perfectly fine. if we are rebuilding which we should it would probably take 4-5 years before we can be a playoff team again. his hard work and leadership can rub off on the kids and his contract will end and we can spend that money on the right players just in time for playoff success, which is what im hoping happens

Secondly I don’t consider trading him for a first and two solid young players to a Stanley cup contending team for the remainder of his contract “dumping him like he’s garbage”

This season is an anomaly not the norm, why do we want to dump that? I get that everyone thinks his contract MAY NOT age well but it also MAY be just fine. No one can predict how long he will play and even if he isn't up to the 30 goal standards of recent years 20+ goals is still acceptable for his contract and his other qualities.</div></div>
the problem isn't that he can't score right now, its that he's broken his hand 3 times and had a concussion at 29. he gets hacked, slashed and cross checked unlike many and he's got 5 years left. he's gets most of his goals from hard work. the question truly is how many healthy years are left. he's played 4 full seasons and he's only 29.he has no real shot or hands and has okay speed. cooley is a good centre but to me he's looking like a ceiling 2 line centre. he's got decent speed, hands and a shot, high iq and is good defensively but none of these attributes stand out, its more an accumulation of good attributes
