Byfield
I don’t really care for Byfield even if he was made available. He’s an underachiever and my impression is that there’s a good chance he will be that for his entire NHL career.

Yeah, I didn’t wanna do that one just yet either but, I figured this years draft picks are more valuable than next years AND that 2nd rounder is almost a 1st rounder at #37 so for me the value was there right now.

Wings are not in the market for a LHD although that seems like fairly decent value. I’d still probably favor keeping Berggren even if we needed a LHD.

I mean I suppose they could find deals elsewhere to move off that $11m and I’d imagine Brodie has some value but I also can’t envision teams lining up to solve the Leafs cap woes. Buyout or (doing nothing) are always options.

Guys are being given away from teams that have severe cap issues and have albatross contracts.
Perron at $2m is valuable.

https://draftprospectshockey.com/draftsim/#/
I’m mentally preparing myself for disappointment on Wednesday. I hope we don’t trade up and I hope we don’t trade 1st rounders for NHL players.
There are so many players in the top 50 of this draft that I would be thrilled with. If anything I want us to move down and get more 1st & 2nd rounders.

Alleged Handshake Deal In Place For DeBrincat
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mmccRed198913</b></div><div>Okay so this is nearly word for word from a podcast last week. The whole thing about Ottawa must have a player at 17 so take it with the largest grain of salt you can find</div></div>
My brother in law showed me the MSN article initially because I had just told him this morning that I was dreading the possibility of us trading for DeBrincat so when I saw the link he showed me, I told him it was a fake ass article.
Then later on I came across the detroitsportsnation article which had some specifics included which was alarming to me even tho it seemed far fetched for the reasons I mentioned but the fact that I just don’t want the guy honestly even if he was a free agent, I wouldn’t sign him, has got me a little twisted today.

Detroit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Killorn is a stretch in my opinion but makes the team so much better and makes Kubalik expendable. A year less term and a bit less money would be ideal but I overpaid to get him here. 25-30 goals plus good play style, I personally think he's worth it. Biggest issue I see is down the road making room for players but that's a then problem.
Jarry can tandem with Husso. I don't know why people siht on him since he's consistently put up decent numbers. Taking a bit off his work load I think would do him wonders. My ideal contract would be 5M x 3 but again I overpaid to get him here.
Schenn is really underrated and showed it last season. He is a good shut down guy and he also led the league in hits last season. He should excel in a second or third pairing roll since most of last season he was playing top pair. I signed him to half of what Chiarot got since I sent Chiarot away at 50%, that way it's not really any different in terms of him for money.
I do the Toronto deal cause I want to get Bonk and he likely isn't there in the second round. It's literally just spending a couple million to move up in the draft. I wouldn't buy him out if I didn't sign Jarry.</div></div>
I don’t think Schenn is better than Chiarot but if you do then the trade makes sense, otherwise it’s a pointless swap of players.

We don’t really get enough in that TOR deal, I’d pass.

This is exactly what we should do. I am dreading the possibility that we trade for anyone not named Lindholm, Nylander or Connor.

You’re correct on Fabbri, Copp, Kubalik & Hanas.
Wrong on Perron, Husso and Zadina.
Perron will be one of the hottest names at the deadline and can certainly add value to playoff teams. He would fetch at the bare minimum a 2nd AND 3rd round pick.
Husso played as good as any goaltender in the league not named a Vezina finalist last year, idc what the numbers may say. Our defense was terrible in front of him and he did not waver. He won’t be traded and as soon as he has a solid defense in front of him, he’ll get the respect he deserves.
Zadina certainly will likely never live up to his draft status but he is a more than serviceable hockey player. He’s not a top 6 guy but he’ll be in the league for a while as a bottom 6 guy that could break out for a 20 goal season in his career. I suppose based on where he was drafted you could certainly get away with labeling him a bust. Still a decent hockey player tho.

Acquiring Lindholm without giving up a 2023 1st is extremely unlikely but I certainly wish we could pull something like this off. Give him an identical contract to Larkin and have Dylan, Elias & Marco down the middle for the next 6-7 years would be a beautiful thing.

Updated rumours
I know it’s become a popular trade for the Red Wings on these forums but I just don’t see how it really makes sense to trade away a similar player in Bertuzzi and get a 1st round pick back just to trade a 1st round pick (and more) the next chance we get…
I really don’t see the Red Wings making any sort of move like this, this offseason unless it’s for a more dynamic player/scorer.
Elias Lindholm, William Nylander & Kyle Connor are the only players that should be on the Wings’ radar if we’re moving high end assets.
