Maybe when pigs fly. I can’t stress enough that even trading for Pettersson on his own, who already has great value in his own right, would require a solid overpay. PIT has 0 reason to trade him and he is a very key piece to our roster.

If the pens were to even consider it then njd would be retaining half on VV then and that still likely wouldn’t get it done

Pens deadline sell off AND offseason
I actually think this is extremely similar to what will happen in terms of the approach. It sounds to me like we are going to be pretty all in with selling at this deadline, try and get maybe 2-3 players like Borque if we can, and then fully rebuild in like 2 years. I don't think we will be a contender next year though. I think it is more like the first stages of a rebuild and maybe hope something clicks and we go on a run, but not expecting that. It sounds to me though like the beginning stages of a rebuild, but we are taking it slower just in case something happens showing we can still contend.
Also I will add that these contracts are pretty reasonable. I think there's 0 chance a big name FA would sign a long term deal here and I don't think it would be smart for us either. Someone like Bertuzzi though for like 2 years makes sense.

I am thinking if Crosby were to waive his NMC, it would cost a lot more than this for the Pens to move him.

Oh okay. I feel like the Sens would still accept that, then maybe trade Branny, just to change things up a little.

He's actually a solid prospect and because of that I think two 2nds isn't bad, but it likely still takes a 1st to get the convo started because there would be a major bidding war for him if he came available. That said there's zero chance the Pens are trading Pettersson UNLESS it's at the deadline and they've just completely crapped the bed.

Oilers with Guentzel and Hanifin
Probably gotta throw Beau Akey into that Guentzel deal if I had to guess.
Per recent reports it seems like itll be closer to a 1st, 3rd and Holloway tho (using Giroux trade as frame work)

Oilers with Guentzel and Hanifin
I like these trades, but I think the comparison is not quite there. The key in both of these trades was that Detroit received a top-20 first round pick with upside, whereas the Oilers will almost definitely have a very late first. The pick in the Giroux trade also held a lot of value because it was far out and unprotected, giving some uncertainty and upside. It is very cool to see that the Oilers could absolutely get trades done, but I think they would have to pay slightly more because there picks will be so late.

Easy no for the pens.
If you're going off the Giroux trade then you need better than McLeod
Tippett is a better player, and was younger at the time of the trade. IF that's the type of return Dubas wants he's going to want someone 23 or younger with NHL experience (similar to Tippett at the time of the trade).

That’s not low enough either. There’s no blue chip piece here that makes this worth considering. Maybe something around Tomasino + Kemell

since we all know the penguins aren't doing the MP trade.
Lets also point out that the penguins don't need to take cap back on Ned and get at least a 3rd for him. There are probably 3 other teams willing to do that right now.

Orlov isn't remotely close to the defensive presence that Pettersson is. It's a joke you can even think that. The only thing Orlov has on MP is a great shot, Pettersson can barely hit the net.

If you're trying to argue that TOI is the deciding factor, you're beyond help.</div></div>
You fail to recognize my point. Pettersson is a highly used defensive presence who has high end underlying numbers and top pair production at 5v5. So despite his usage and heavy reliance on D he still manages to put up points at a top pair rate with great defensive metrics. If you think I was only using TOI as a deciding factor you should really get some reading comprehension help.

Orlov is literally on your 3rd paring right now playing only 16 minutes a night. He gets almost twice as many offensive zone starts compared to D zone starts. He is sheltered by two other D pairs and zone starts. Pettersson meanwhile actually plays top pair, over 22 minutes a night, twice as many Dzone starts as Ozone starts, heavily relied on PK'er and good producer of offense at 5v5. I wouldn't trade him 1 for 1.

Question for Pens Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cameron_Cobb</b></div><div>It is really hard to say. Jarry has been playing good, nedeljkovic is playing way better than anyone expected and Blomqvist has looked like a future superstar so I would say they run with jarry and Ned for most of next while also getting Blomqvist to play a few games then run with jarry and Blomqvist, then after 1 or 2 seasons with Blomqvist backing up he probably becomes the starter and jarry is moved for a prospect and a couple picks</div></div>
I don't think they'll be able to afford Ned next year. He's definitely playing himself into a high paid back-up job unless some team believes he's ready to be a starter. I think Blomqvist will be the backup next year.

Question for Pens Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>iforgotmyname</b></div><div>So would you say Jarry most likely gets moved in a year or they run a tandem?</div></div>
I think they will run tandem. My guess is next season will be he first shot at backup, but I'm sure he'll still need a couple of years before he's ready to take the healm, so it will probably the kind of situation in three years where the Pens could look to trade Jarry if Blomqvist is ready.
