100% Would expect the 21st body to be Liljigren instead of Gabriel, with him and Brooks up and down most of the year (not sure about waiver exemptions there, assuming they would have to get Gabriel through the first time which shouldn't be a huge issue)/

Not sure Thomas comes in less than Kyrou on a 2 year deal, but you have cap space to account for that.
What about a three-way trade that has Tarasenko & maybe Sanford with a STL 3rd going to NJ, Morgan Rielly (with extension) & Kerfoot (don't need to sign Bozak) to STL, and a STL 1st rounder, Miles Wood and PK Subban (with retention) going to the Leafs. Might need some work, but it could fit the needs of all three teams. STL gives up a first, third, Tarasenko and Sanford to get Rielly and Kerfoot.

Read a report where Cizikas is looking to cash in. Possibly looking for $5m. I think the only hometown discount for him is to stay in on the Island.

I am pretty confident that Anaheim isn't retaining $3.2m/yr for 6 more years on Gibson for him to play for the Leafs.

He isn't getting more AAV than Pietrangelo in this market. But he might get the 8th year based on CAR allowing him to explore FA.

I can see Dermott at his QO of $874,125 as he doesn;t have a lot of leverage. Would set him up to make more over the flat cap era, too. Mikheyev coming in around $1.5m/2 years, and Engvall/SAndin starting the year in the minors or possibly even on loan overseas.

Cap hit is daily number. So if a $7m player isnt on the roster for the first 2/3rds of the season (on LTIR), then only the daily hit from when they come back accrues against the cap, not the whole $7m. I havent done the math, but this is why a team with $1.5m in cap space can acquire a $7m player at the deadline, or move said $7m player of LTIR & fit them under the cap</div></div>

Cap space is accrued, so it might be possible to add 91 back in at the deadline. But this isnt far fetched that 27 still signs in STL.

NEED YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VGKNation702</b></div><div>I mean we certainly could, but why this move?</div></div>
Straight up cap space. Realistically Cousins and Stephenson could come in around $2m a piece, which means one or the other, or possibly both would need to move. Moving these players will liekly be easier than moving Stasny. Assuming moving MAF's $$ is to free up $$ to sign Lehner (probably around same AAV), and they still need to sign 2D.

Would be surprised if LVK move Carrier, but they likely have to move Cousins or Stephenson. I think either or could be a good fit in the Leafs bottom 6 without being north of $2 million.

Apparently Fleury may be Bought Out
Does anyone know the implications beyond next year on a buyout?
ie. Rangers have a cap hit of $2.5+m annually for Girardi & Shattenkik until '22/23. Wouldn;t it make more sense to trade him with retention of up to $2,583,333 (hit on buy-out) than buy him out and feel the cap pain for multiple years?
Vegas needs cap space just to keep Lehner and their own RFAs, let alone having space to go after Pietrangelo.

tender change
I think either of the CLB goaltenders is the best way forward, if the Leafs move on from Freddie. That being said, when the Leafs got Freddie it cost a 1st & a 2nd rounder. Would have to guess that is the starting point for Korpisalo, but maybe a 1st & 3rd as the 1st in Freddie deal was 30th overall and the Leafs would likely be offering the 16th. Merzlinkins likely less but the Leafs could do worse than a Merzlinkins/Campbell duo.

Blues w RFAs signed - post-Allen
Tarasenko to LTIR and move Bozak or Steen, and Pietrangelo will be back in a Blues uniform. Would expect he would sign a full term $8.5m to stay, especially with the state of the cap for the next 3 years.

It's actually 2,670,000 reasons to move him. Not in the deal above - that's horrendous, but wouldn't be surprised if he comes into play for "cap retention" (player whose cap hit is higher than actual salary) + late draft assets this off season. For example, the third wheel in a Brandon Sutter deal out of VAN or Bozak out of STL.

80% of Kesler's contract is insured. So there is a cash savings of $2.67m for the Duck in moving him.

Taxes are based on the players schedule since taxes are based on where they were earned. Since they play 50% of their home games in Toronto that accounts for half and the other half is based on their road games.</div></div>
This is an interesting resource. thanks for sharing.
I do believe Toronto found a loop hole with bonuses for non-Canadian players as well. I believe tax paid on signing bonuses is non-existant if your principle residence is in the US (not sure about Europe).

leafs next year
For Savard retention, can't see CLB retaining that much, no matter what the assets are in return. They have cap, but not sure the team wants to spend the cash.
1) Savard is owed $4m on a $4.25m cap hit, so retaining $0.25m is a base as they have some sapce, and it wouldn;t cost them money.
2) For any more retention a team would have to take back Dubinsky's contract b/c 20% is uninsured (about $1.17m which is hard cash spent by CLB franchise. Could likely find a $500k retention there saving them half of that.
3) And then assuming TOR has already paid Johnsson's $1m bonus (July 1st), the Jackets would only owe him $2.6m in cash, so maybe Leafs could collect retention on that for $500k.
Anyways, critically thinking $1.25m would likely be the best the Leafs could do on retention on Savard out of CLB, maybe $500k more if the asset coming back was enticing enough.

This exact management group turned over 9 players from 2019 to 2020, though. Marleau, Kadri, Ennis, Brown, Hainsey, Gardiner, Zaitsev, Ozighanov, G. Sparks. Half to free agency, half to cap. Less FA's this year I guess. Mind you, the deals above are a little more significant to the core than last off season.
