can you do this
In a situation like this, Kane's number would be $2,625,000.
It is allowable by the CBA.
Probably not giving enough young pieces to Arizona who is multiple years away. Probably overpaying CHI based on Kane's value, but that may end up being his market.

Fiscal reality
you traded Ryan Lindgren for no apparent reason. your roster is one player too large, move any defensemen to the minors and NYR can afford Lindgren (at least for '22-'23)

Agreed. Just wanted to see if a team could be created around the idea. Can't see how it would work out.

It gets more expensive to buy more UFA years. This deal puts him as an UFA right at 27 years old once the cap has spiked up.

The core of the team for the next half decade is 26 and under in Igor, Fox, Miller, Schneider, Lindgren, Laf, Chytil, Kakko and hopefully Kravtsov. That’s not even mentioning guys like Berard, Jones, Othmann, Cuylle, Korczak, Lundkvist and Robertson who are even younger. As far as I see it, they need 1 more young top 6 center. They do that and they’re set long term. The older core of the team will continue to train the younger core of the team to eventually take over and lead the team into the next decade. It’ll be like a Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa type situation in Chicago where they were still very good, but older than guys like Kane and Toews. I’m not saying the Rangers will have anywhere near that level of success, but I can honestly see it happening like that.</div></div>
And in '25-'26 they'll be paying Igor 10+ per year and it's gonna feel like Hank all over again.

The Rangers have the best contract in hockey (Igor) for the next 3 years. That's the window.

To be fair, JT Miller is now a worse asset than he was at the deadline. 2 playoff runs vs 1 playoff run.

We can retain on this years cap and have a new deal worked out that would be inclusive of a proposed move. Obviously this increases the value but him for just a year also comes with significant value. He is the greatest US born hockey player to grace the sport and the marketability alone would be a massive incentive let alone the improvement and mentoring he can bring to a young NYR with aspirations for a cup.</div></div>
wasn't a top5 American in scoring this year. his marketability adds nothing to this trade

Othmann likely not ready next year. You can afford to swap him out with Trivigno.
Fairly added an asset to get rid of Nemeth.
Probably an overpay for 1 year of Pasta.
$20MM of cap space for next summer is nice to re-sign Miller, Laf, Chytil, Jones & Kravtsov.

Vatrano will get more $. Motte will get more term. I'd be okay with Motte at that number over 4 years. Slight overpay ok Kakko. Value for Georgiev looks right on. Wedgewood will be priced out of our range for BUG. Stastny deal looks very fair.

Best case is trading him on draft night for something like a 3rd to a team that wants to negotiate exclusively.

IMO, the Rangers could qualify Georgiev and then retain 50% of his salary for a draft pick. I doubt they'll have $1.325M in luxury cap space to do it though.

If the Red Wings let Kakko accept an offer sheet after this trade, they'd receive 3 1st Round picks, 1 3rd round pick, Nils Lundqvist (B+ prospect), and some throw ins. How much higher is the ask on Larkin than 3 1sts?

NYR savings in the first 2 years would represent 4.6% and 7.0% of the cap. Penalty in years 5 thru 8 would be 2.4% of the cap at most.
